As part of our Scholarship Tip Series leading up to the extended May 11 deadline, we’re sharing more ways to help strengthen your application and help you stand out.
💡 Series Tip #3: Start Early & Tell Your Story
Your essays are your opportunity to go beyond grades and achievements and share who you are, what has shaped you, and what drives your passion for STEM.
📝 Biosketch (250 words)
Your biosketch should focus on who you are and provide insight into your:
✔️ Cultural background
✔️ Academic journey
✔️ Family background
✔️ Personal experiences
⚠️ Remember: Your biosketch should NOT repeat your personal statement. Think of it as your introduction and background story.
📝 Personal Statement
A few tips for approaching your personal statement:
✔️ Be authentic and reflective
✔️ Connect your experiences to your STEM goals
✔️ Highlight leadership, resilience, service, and growth
✔️ Share how your experiences have shaped your aspirations
✔️ Show how you’ve impacted your community
The strongest applications are thoughtful, genuine, and personal. Start early so you have time to reflect, revise, and submit your best work.
