Charlotte says, “This year is my third and final time choreographing for Dance Production, so I wanted to make a fun dance inspired by musical artists that I grew up dancing to. I am so proud of all of my dancers and can’t wait for you all to experience their amazing talent.”

Zuriyah say, “In my final year of choreographing, my priority was leaving it all on the stage. Combining some of my favorite kinds of movement with the music that breathes life into me, I’ve been fortunate to orchestrate an evolution of dancers and growing their passion alongside mine. It was important to highlight pieces and places of each of us, to make for an unforgettable performance.”

Please welcome Sean!

Sean says, “This piece is heavily inspired by girl groups and gaming! I’ve always been fascinated with the coordination, the ex*****on, and performance of several girl groups such as: Destiny’s Child, Spice Girls, and Twice. Their ability to provide a united front through sisterhood and performance was always so inspiring to me, and I wanted my dancers to feel that similar power in performing as a unit, whilst highlighting their individual styles. In terms of gaming, I have always been obsessed with fighting games and the various ways that feminine characters utilize awesome combat moves different from the typical punching and kicking. I wanted to showcase that ferocity in movement and instill that fighter-like confidence in all my dancers.

Dominique says, “More than anything, this dance is about feeling connected to the music, the culture, and each other. I aimed to build an environment where rehearsals felt freeing rather than stressful. Hiva Hype is about showing up, learning together, hyping one another up, and enjoying the process. It is a reminder that dance can be meaningful while still being lighthearted and full of good energy on and off the stage.”

Claire says, “A powerful heels dance that showcases the technique, musicality, and performance of the dancers through sharp and dramatic movements. The piece is about being unapologetic in femininity, and it highlights sensuality and confidence.”
