Kidscancode.org We teach kids to code! Only 10% of K-12 schools in the United States offer any form of computer science curriculum.

We live in a time when use of technology and pe*******on of mobile and embedded computers is ever increasing, and yet the number of computer science and programming graduates is not keeping up with demand. On top of this, postponing the introduction of basic programming skills until undergraduate school puts a student at a significant disadvantage - analagous to not teaching basic math skills until college and then lumping it all together with a higher math course. Meanwhile, other countries are stepping up to the challenge and introducing basic programming courses as early as 2nd grade. It is clear that expecting the education system to incorporate programming into the curriculum at a time of shrinking budgets and singular focus on standardized testing is not going to solve the problem. We must provide another route, using the tools and resources provided by the Internet and the Open Source movement; and engaging directly with parents and educators to bring these lessons to children outside the classroom.
