A More Balanced World

A Dream Shared: From Opportunity to Impact
 
Sebastiana always dreamed of becoming a teacher. Growing up in rural Guatemala, she hoped that one day she could stand at the front of a classroom and inspire children the way she had been inspired. But for many girls in her community, education beyond the early grades was uncertain.
 
Things began to change however when she was selected for a scholarship by Pura Vida Ministries, a Colorado-based nonprofit working to expand educational opportunities for children and youth in Guatemala’s underserved rural communities.
 
At first, even this opportunity seemed fragile. Like many parents in the area at the time, Sebastiana’s father believed that girls should remain at home rather than continue their studies. Yet with persistence and support of others, Sebastiana convinced her father to allow her to accept the scholarship—a decision that would change not only her life, but the lives of many others.
 
Sebastiana completed high school and eventually entered university, earning a bachelor’s degree in education. Today, she teaches at two schools in the region, sharing her knowledge of science, language, and culture with the next generation. Beyond the classroom, she also serves as a community leader for the Pura Vida program, helping administer scholarships, mentoring younger students, and supporting educational programs in nearby communities.
 
Inspired by her journey, several if her siblings have since joined the scholarship program, heading for a better tomorrow.

Radhika is a bright and compassionate young woman studying nursing at St. Ignatius Health Sciences in Karnataka, India.

Her family faces challenging circumstances: her father suffers from severe illness and requires constant care. Her mother, a daily field worker, supports the family on her own, working tirelessly to provide for her family of seven.

Living far from home in a hostel to pursue her studies, Radhika embodies the caring spirit essential in nursing.

With support from ‘A More Balanced World’, Radhika is empowered to realize her dream of becoming a nurse, aiming to support her family and give back to her community.

In the vibrant coastal city of Durban, South Africa, lives a bright and determined young woman named Tiara. From an early age, Tiara stood out for her intellect and deep compassion for others — qualities that have fueled her lifelong dream of becoming a doctor.
 
Tiara lives with her parents and one sibling. Her father, a skilled carpenter, is the family’s only breadwinner, but his work is unstable and his income uncertain. Tiara’s mother, who manages the household, provides strength and encouragement as Tiara pursues her education against the odds.
 
When her father’s inconsistent income made it difficult to continue university, Tiara took out a student loan to stay in school. Her determination caught the attention of A More Balanced World, which has now stepped in to offer her a scholarship, easing the burden and giving her the chance to focus on what truly matters — her studies toward achieving her dream.
 
With this support, Tiara is more hopeful, believing that with persistence and opportunity, she will one day achieve her goal — not only for herself, but for her family and community as well.

illness that demands costly medical treatment. His mother spends long hours handcrafting bidis—earning barely enough to contribute to the family’s needs; this leaves his elder sister to serve as the primary breadwinner for the family.

Although Preetham’s academic talent earned him a government scholarship, (working toward a degree in Artificial Intelligence), it barely covered his university expenses. Preetham’s journey took a hopeful turn when recognizing his potential, A More Balanced World stepped in to support him financially.

Through this assistance, and with the encouragement of Small Acts for Sustainability (SAS), he has gained not only financial relief but also a sense of belonging. SAS became a space where he could learn, grow, and form genuine connections with others who share his determination.
 
A More Balanced World is honored to stand beside Preetham as he moves toward a future shaped by innovation, compassion, and possibility. His story is one of courage forged through adversity, and of dreams that continue to rise despite every challenge.
