Have you seen your citrus growing in funky ways like this? Well it’s not just your tree being unique, it’s actually a sign of Bud Mites.
Bud Mites are microscopic pests that feed inside the leaf and flower buds of citrus trees. This causes distorted growth in the fruit like you see here, it can also show up in leaves and buds.
Pruning out infected areas can help manage this but be sure you toss all trimmings in the bin! Additionally you can spray for these pests with bamboo vinegar, castile soap and Arber Bio Insecticide if your tree is struggling to fight against it.
Can you still eat the fruit? We would avoid using the rind like for zest but if the inside of the fruit is not spoiled or rotten it is safe to eat!
