Empower HER

Empower HER serves to increase the attendance of school girls in impoverished communities of Belize by providing education and products for menstruation.

EmpowerHER is a student-initiated organization that combines service and health education to increase young school girl attendance. We began our efforts in San Victor, where young girls skip or or drop out school because they lack proper knowledge and resources to manage menstruation. As a result, their quality of education and number of opportunities after primary education decline. EmpowerHER was originally partnered with the Donald A. Strauss Scholarship Foundation and the non-profit organization, Reto Juvenil Internacional. Together with over 20 other Loyola Marymount students, EmpowerHER is dedicated to providing education and feminine products to young girls in the impoverished rural communities in San Victor Village, Belize. As young women, we understand that this basic need to manage menstruation empowers us to live life uninterrupted. We only hope that through our organization, we can empower other young women to do the same.
