It's almost time to start another VAASome school year! Next week is orientation for all students. Please make sure you attend on your assigned day, as many important tasks will take place--receiving your schedule and textbooks, checking out your iPad, taking your ID photos, and getting important information for the Fall semester. It is summer VAAS! Get outside and explore the vast open spaces of Southern California. Then explore our amazing museums. Go see a play at one of our many theaters. Listen to some live music outdoors be it at the Bowl, the Greek, or the park. In your spare time read, read, and read. See you in August.

Four days this week and four days next week. Can it really be true that there are only 8 days left in the 2014 school year? We have so much still to do; 11th graders take the EAP in ELA and math, softball has their second round playoff game, the dance production goes up, boys golf play in the CIF tournament, and our seniors graduate.

Today Ms. Ryan, science teacher, was recognized by Southern California Helpful Honda Dealers to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. She was selected due to her commitment to the instructional program, her work with students, and her efforts in reaching out to the community to support our art and science infused school plan. She received $5,000 of science equipment, materials, and supplies.

What are you doing tomorrow and Saturday night? You should be heading to the theatre to see Cinderella, under the Direction of Ms. Tyni. The production is double cast and each cast brings it's own unique flavor to the play. Everyone simply must see it twice. The play is funny. The choreography, staging, and sets are inventive. Mr. Emley's musical talent and his work with the singers, once again, adds depth to the play. Friday there are 2 shows, 4:00 and 7:00 and Saturday the show starts at 6:30. Be there!

It is Spring Break 2014 and time to rest, refresh, and renew.

Today our students presented their LIFEcycle project for the Aspen Challenge competition. I am thrilled to report we WON! Our students will be representing LAUSD at the Aspen Ideas Institute this summer in Colorado. Stay tuned, as there will be more exciting events as we learn to live forward and prepare for our trip to Aspen.

Spring Sports are off to a wonderful start! Boys and girls Lacrosse are having successful seasons. Boys baseball won an impressive season opener. Today, boys volleyball played one of their best matches yet, winning in 3 straight sets and softball defeated NAHS in the bottom of the 9th, after 2 tied extra innings, 13:11. How we love Spring!

Our Robotics Team, under the leadership of Mr. Milanes, were invited to compete last weekend at the State Robotics competition in Northern California. Their efforts were rewarded with 20th place! That's 20th place out of every high school in the State. Simply amazing. We are all looking forward to next year and competing in the World competition.

Thank you to PTSA, under the direction of an amazing Board and our president Jennifer, for a fabulous day of pancakes, wonderful silent auction items, and fellowship.
