Ustrasana — Camel Pose 🐪

A feel a good backbend when you’re able to keep the hips stacked over the knees and truly coil from the upper back rather than collapsing into the lower back.

In this video, I’m using a chair to help keep my p***c bone moving forward so I can create more length through the entire front body.

My hands are pressing into the backrest of the chair to encourage the upper back to move toward the chest. Notice that my head is not dropping all the way back right away. Once I can touch my heels and feel the engagement and support of the upper back, then I can safely release the head back.

Here, I’m choosing to stay in a more suspended version of the pose and allow the upper back to do the work rather than pushing deeper into the shape.

Give it a try and let me know if you have any questions or comments below ✨

A day in my life as a yoga teacher in Los Angeles ✨

Most mornings I wake up around 6 AM…give or take. The first thing I do is scrape my tongue, use the neti pot, and drink warm water with lemon and turmeric. Then I go straight to my meditation cushion before anything else.

After meditation, I have my mushroom coffee (and yes…that’s usually when I check my phone 😄), and then I move into my yoga practice.

After practice, I’ll have a late breakfast, take my supplements, sip some green tea, and then it’s off to teaching.

This particular day started with a private Zoom session, and then j and I rode the motorcycle to for my noon class.

After teaching, we had a late lunch at one of my favorite vegan spots in LA, Cafe Gratitude.

When we got home, I relaxed by the pool with Mrs. Fitz before finishing up my workday with computer work and admin.

In the early evening, I take Mrs. Fitz for a walk, which is always entertaining 🐾. And while it’s not in the video, I usually end my day with a bath and completely shut down from the world.

Obviously every day looks a little different, but the routines I’ve created for myself here in Los Angeles help keep me grounded, focused, and connected to myself amidst the busyness of life.

Does any of this resonate with you? What are the daily rituals that keep you centered? ✨

Once upon a time, about 25 years ago, I lived in Las Vegas for a year. It became a bridge between my New York life and my Los Angeles life, and every time I come back here it brings up a strange mix of memories, nostalgia, and reflection on how much life has changed.

I just got back from a long weekend here with my partner , hanging out with him while he was on a job with . The Strip definitely doesn’t have the same appeal it had 25 years ago, but I still found myself enjoying the experience in a completely different way.

✨ Getting to see Above & Beyond live
✨ Amazing dinners and conversations
✨ Long walks through the Strip with Fitzjoy and people watching. 😍
✨ Seeing at the Sphere…which was amazing!
✨ And sharing dinner with my longtime friend , who I met 25 years ago in Las Vegas .🪬

I realize more and more that enjoying life and spending quality time with the people you love is one of the most important things. Between all the teaching, traveling, and responsibilities, these moments of connection, laughter, and music, helped to nourish my soul.🙏

Life moves fast…take the trip, have the dinner, go for the walk, and spend time with the people who light up your heart. 💫

Hi Yogis,

Here is a little highlight of my upcoming retreat hosted by to Morocco October 24 - 30, 2026.

We will stay outside of Marrakesh near the Atlas Mountains at a stunning retreat center tucked away in the peaceful hills of Morrocco.

We will open the day with a vinyasa flow practice in the morning and wind the day down with a quieting inward practice in the early evening in a fully equipped Shala.

Enjoy organic and vegetarian meals that help to nourish your soul!

We will visit the lively old Medina of Marrakesh, wander through the magical Anima Gardens, hike through the majestic Atlas Mountains and explore local berber villages.

We only have a few more rooms left, so hope you can join me and the .yoga.official’s international community!

More info is in the link in bio or visit:

Some days it feels hard to keep our hearts open in the world we live in.

The noise, the division, the pressure, the constant rush… it can slowly pull on our heart strings and disconnect us from each other.

But maybe the practice is about remembering the small things and practicing the small acts of kindness that keep us connected to one another. 🙏

Smile more
Be patience
Listen deeply
Offering compassion instead of reaction
Choosing softness when the world feels hard.

These acts of kindness matter. They ripple outward in ways we may never fully see.

My practice has taught me that keeping my heart open even when life feels heavy is the key to inner peace.

And this is where the real yoga starts.

How can you show more kindness today?

❤️

Look at the beautiful nature of New Zealand!

Join me March 1 - 7, 2027 at
Maruia River Retreat & Abel Tasman National Park

We will start the tour in the beautiful town of Nelson, and take a three day guided coastal walk at the Abel Tasman National Park with golden beaches, turquoise bays, and coastal forest trails.

We will then transition from coast to the forest in a private native rainforest valley bordered by river and mountain landscapes. This luxury retreat center called Retreat is five stars and includes a fully equiped shala, whirlpool bath and sauna, and delicious organic cuisine. We will conclude the retreat here with daily practices by Joan and soak in the exquisite nature that the South Island of New Zealand offers.
