Apps are great, but immediate personal feedback is so crucial when learning a language, especially with Tagalog --- with all our words that LOOK the same on paper, but mean totally different things, depending on where the accents are placed, and when pronounced with glottal or hard stops. Think “SUKA,” translated as vinegar, but can ALSO be translated as vomit🤢!

Parents of Fil-Am teens: does your child already understand Tagalog but just answers back in English? This is all too common. By the teen years, comprehension is there, but confidence to speak isn’t.
