After many months of hiatus, development, and early testing, Mattgammon v4-3 is now ready for playtesters!
While the latest version of the game might look a little less complete than v3, the board, deck, and rules have all been overhauled to produce a much more satisfying experience than any of the previous experimental versions.
In addition, I’ve just finished an early version of a virtual playtesting program that runs in-browser to make it easier for out-of-town playtesters to play the game with their friends! Now no matter where you are in the world, you can test out the latest version of the game at home with your friends at your leisure.

Hello all! It’s been a while, so I thought an update might be in order.
Mattgammon is, in fact, still in development. My initial goal was to be finished with the development phase by spring of this year, but I pressed pause on the project for a while due to a tumultuous past six months, which included a major out-of-state move.
Luckily, taking a bit of time away from development has given me a chance to reassess the game and refocus my design priorities. You may notice a distinct lack of branding on the latest version of the board shown in this post – this is a deliberate design choice to help separate the development of the game’s mechanical design and its branding.
The name “Mattgammon” has always been temporary for the finished product, and I want to make sure the name, tone, and aesthetic design of the final game perfectly suit the final mechanical version of the game. With that in mind, this account will likely switch to more generic branding to accommodate further design changes.
The upcoming prototype of the game will contain as little branding as possible to enable more rapid development and focus on the core mechanics of the game.
If you’ve playtested before or are waiting for your chance to do so, there’s good news: the new version has some major changes to the status quo that I’m very excited to test out. If you haven’t already, make sure to sign up to playtest at the link in bio! I’ll post more info about the latest version once it’s ready for user testing. Enjoy your weekend, folks!

Some old treasures from the vaults: Mattgammon v1.0 and 3.0!
The original versions of the game were hand-drawn on salvaged cardboard boxes, and featured no clear way to win – you just played until the night ended.
Versions 1.0 and 2.0 also featured the “graveyard,” a labeled piece of cardboard on which the die was rolled. Depending on which space the die landed on, a different modifier was applied to the remainder of the turn.

Mattgammon can currently be played with any of three separate card decks – green, yellow, and red. Each is optimized for a different part of the night – green is for the start of the night, yellow is for when you’re already buzzed, and red… well, let’s just say it’s not for the faint of heart.

Mattgammon is a brand new drinking board game developed by and for college kids looking to leave their inhibitions at the door. Roll the dice, spin the wheel, and draw cards from one of several interchangeable decks, each designed to cater to a certain level of player intoxication.
