I am collecting donations (my personal venmo is shared below - my business venmo will charge fees) to get supplies for evacuation centers when it is safe for me to drive back up. Right now I am in a hotel in Orange County and it's across the street from a target. I've been able to get over 450 diapers, 950 wipes, 36 new wash cloths, contact solution, baby shampoo, tampons, pads and more.

They are asking for kids medicine, pet carriers and leashes, and more. Anything donated will be given to fire victims who have lost everything.

Thank you for your kindness and support.

As some of you know, KTE lives in LA - I am safe, but absolutely devastated and the fire is still out of control.

And, the best thing you can do to be supportive, is do your own self-reflective work. Don't wait for people to ask you to challenge yourself - just do it. We don't need a mild, limp-wristed, minimally challenged allegiance. We need real change agents. Action even when it's inconvenient or uncomfortable. Rise up or sit down - but don't sit there with a bracelet on and say you're doing something.

More about this on my insta page - but we're gonna have a chat about allyship over here, and the importance of authenticity and intention.

If you *only* want to *look* like a good ally, please leave the chat. This isn't about you. This takes diligent, thoughtful, humble work. If you're unable and unwilling to do it, don't say you *want* to be an ally. The oppressed don't owe you their grace while you catch yourself up on things. Do that on your own.

I say this often! Sometimes we need to remove this demand!

I love this! What a way to think about teaching skills - developing talents! πŸ€©πŸ’―

Who knows better about developing the talents of those with autism than Temple Grandin?

The book explores many unnoticed aspects of vocational rehabilitation programs that provide job training and placement for people with disabilities, as well as Social Security Administration programs that offer vocational assistance.

I'd say the same is true if you want to support people with autism! And accept that the same strategies and interventions shouldn't be used for everyone just because they are standard practice. Not everyone needs a token board!

Thanks for sharing, ABA Inside Track!
What a good list of the reasons I went into private practice - so I could have this kind of "life of luxury"
Have a great weekend, everyone! 😎

I've expanded my ABA skill set to....agricultural science! Raising kittens with ASPCA has been my latest (literal) pet project! I've learned a lot about cats - they are nothing like dogs - but this is my third round of successful fosters since April! Most of the skills I've focused on are pro social behaviors, responding to cues, and some tolerance training. Not much luck on training to follow commands, cats are truly autonomous 😹

KTE is now in network with Aetna and Optum!
Serving the Greater Los Angeles area, KTE provides low-hour, all BCBA services to families looking for an alternative to the traditional ABA model of care.

Parents work directly with KTE to establish goals and strategies that are aligned with their values and supportive environments, and fits in their established routine and schedules. KTE is focused on quality of time, not quantity, and delivers all services personally.

When I think about cross-speciality collaboration, I think about how to use ABA methods to support development of other specialist recommendations. This visual could be a great tool to work on imitation skills, following directions, or even use of the visual - "what is that guy doing? What color is he? Can you do that?"

It doesn't have to be "we don't work on these - this is out of scope."

Work together with other specialists to incorporate their goals into your sessions when you can!

Vestibular input can calm or excite. Vestibular sensory input can be alerting or calming to our nervous systems, allowing us to learn, interact with others, and go through our day. Here, we’re unpacking everything you need to know about vestibular processing and the vestibular system. Let’s move! https://www.theottoolbox.com/vestibular-activities/

This type of movement is a powerful tool in therapy and at home.
