September has always felt like a month of new beginnings…
A time to clean out the cobwebs, reflect on what has been, and dream about what lies ahead.
This year an amazing metamorphosis took place in our garden and a magical studio now sits upon the hill - I am so grateful for this space, this place to make music and snuggle on the rug reading stories with my kids.
I am a musician and while I have been growing .kitchen I haven’t shared much about the musical part of my life. But along with this new physical garden space comes a new online space - a place to share music and everything going on in my musical world. I hope you’ll join me!

We smelled the basil before we saw it and let our noses lead us across the market!
There’s nothing quite like fresh basil and stumbling across some unexpectedly yesterday was like finding a little pot of gold!
Oooh the possibilities!
One of my daughters loves pesto almost as much as I do - I don’t have a kitchen aid thingy and so I make huge batches in the blender. I like to mix in spinach or kale for an extra boost and I use walnuts instead of pine nuts.
Want the recipe? I don’t have it written down! It’s a little of this and a little of that…
What’s your favourite way to enjoy basil?

Kids say the darnedest things, and this was one of my favourites!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I mean, fare enough…it’s not reasonable to expect our kids will love absolutely everything we put on the table - there are lots of things I don’t like and it doesn’t matter how many different creative ways they’re served!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sometimes we just don’t like stuff.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And sometimes we like stuff and then after awhile we don’t.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In order to keep up with the constantly changing likes and dislikes of my family members I came up with a super fun and simple little activity.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Details are on my blog (honestly it only takes like 5 minutes to do) so you can give it a try for yourself!

A moment captured with my girl in a magical Canyon garden surrounded by friends and citrus trees…

There is one particular cookie recipe that is universally loved by every single member of my family...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So loved in fact, that my mom used to bury tins of these cookies in the deep dark corners of our freezer so they wouldn’t all be eaten in a single day!
The recipe came from my Nana - my Mom’s mom - and she called them "Family Favourites".
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Recently, at my daughters’ request, I revisited my Nana’s "Family Favourites" recipe, following the handwritten notes from the little red cookbook that I saved after her passing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Surprisingly there were very few instructions in her recipe - just a list of ingredients and then single words like “mix” or “combine”. If I hadn’t made these as I kid I would never have known to roll the batter into little balls and then gently press them flat with a fork that needs to be dipped in water to prevent the batter from sticking.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Some family traditions are preserved, not by writing them down, but by experiencing them with your own hands and then sharing them from generation to generation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I've adapted Nana's original recipe and included step-by-step instructions so you can try these at home too! If you make them I recommend taking a page out of my moms book and hiding a stash in your freezer because they will disappear!

These flowers mesmerize me and my kids are tired of hearing about it!
But to me, this is the quintessential wild flower - bold, bright, tall and pedals as delicate as crumpled tissue paper.
We started with just a few, but this year they are spilling down the hillside and popping up all over the garden!

This is a picture of my brother experiencing a boisterous and messy mealtime with my kids. Look at his face! It cracks me up - he's smiling, and yet behind his eyes you can almost hear his brain screaming "get me outta here!!!!"
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When my kids were toddlers I was stressed out about cooking all the time. It felt like a behemoth responsibility, it was relentless and I didn't like it!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I wanted to get fresh wholesome food on the table, but I didn't want to spend hours fussing around in the kitchen to do it!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My dream of hiring a personal chef to take care of it all was never going to happen, so I rolled up my sleeves and began experimenting.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have spent the last number of years developing recipe frameworks and secret time saving tricks that have been the key to my sanity in the kitchen!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨I am so excited to finally share them all with you in my BRAND NEW ONLINE COURSE, Flexible Family Meals! ✨
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This course is designed to help reduce the stress and mess of family mealtime.

If you came upon a gorgeous bin of avocados on the street corner would you buy one?
The answer is YES of course!!
We placed our $1 in the box, grabbed a big Haas, and today it was finally ripe enough to eat.
There's something magical about eating fruit just picked from a tree...like a little extra love and sunshine has been infused into every bite.
What did I make? Pita with the works!

There's a wall in West Hollywood that attracts selfie-takers like moths to a flame...
I happened to pass by the other day and looked up. The juxtaposition of pink against the brilliant blue LA sky took my breath away.

This is not just another salad jar. This is a BROWNIE jar full of the whole veggies and fruits that are blended into delicious chocolatey bites...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Canyon Kitchen brownies were one of the two recipes that launched our company. This is the recipe that will be closing off the final month of our Monthly Nourishment program.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The founding members of this program - those who took a leap of faith and bought the membership before I had even created any content - are approaching the 12th and final month. It's hard to believe a year has almost passed!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I am so grateful to all of our members who are currently going through the Monthly Nourishment experience and can't I wait for you to try this deliciously healthy recipe!
