College Rocqet expands affordable and pro-bono admissions consulting for students applying to school

05/05/2026

It’s May, and the 'summer panic' is real. 🗓️

I see so many students signing up for programs just because they think it’s what admissions officers want to see. But here’s a reflection for you: a summer spent checking boxes rarely leads to a compelling essay.

Instead of chasing titles, use this month to pivot. What if you traded a generic camp for a deep dive into a topic you actually love? Start that blog, submit to that writing competition, or build a project from scratch.

The goal isn't just to fill the time: it's to find your voice. When you choose agency over aesthetics, the 'narrative' takes care of itself.

What’s one thing you’re doing this summer just for YOU? Let’s talk in the comments. 👇

Did your top-choice school just flip the script on testing? 📉

Lately, we’ve seen some major "Testing U-Turns" where schools that were test-optional are suddenly requiring scores again. If you’re a parent or a student caught in the middle, you’re probably asking: Do we scramble for a last-minute score, or do we pivot the school list?

Here’s the deal: neither answer is wrong, but you need a plan.

Scrambling means hitting the books hard for a late spring or summer test date. It’s intense, but it keeps those specific doors open.

Pivoting means looking at your list with fresh eyes. At College Rocqet, I help families find incredible schools that align with your academic profile AND your testing preferences. There are still amazing options out there that value your story over a three-digit score.

Don’t let a policy change derail your momentum. Whether you decide to test or tweak your list, we can figure it out together.

Reach out if you’re feeling the testing squeeze: I’m here to help you navigate the turn! 🚀

Ever feel like you’re just a set of numbers on a transcript?

In the world of admissions, there’s a secret weapon you need to know about: Holistic Admissions.

Think of it as your superpower.

It means colleges aren't just looking at your GPA or your test scores. They are looking at the WHOLE you. Your music, your community service, your leadership, and that unique story only you can tell.

Pro-tip: Don't just list your activities. Show them your impact. Whether you’re the lead violinist in the orchestra or the person who organizes the local food drive, those passions are what make your application shine.

At College Rocqet, we specialize in helping you find that poetic thread that connects your interests to your future goals. We don't just build school lists; we help you build a narrative that admissions officers can't ignore.

Your background isn't a distraction: it's your biggest asset. Own your story. Use your voice. Show them who you truly are.

Is your college list built for 2026 or 2004?

Generic lists are a thing of the past. In 2026’s record-breaking application landscape, you need a strategy as unique as your profile. If your list looks like everyone else’s, you’re missing the chance to truly stand out.

Successful applications are built on self-reflection and clarity. You need more than just a collection of names; you need a strategic roadmap tailored to your specific academic profile and personal goals.

Pro-tip: Focus on "fit" over "fame." Investigate program-specific details: like which schools are waiving standardized testing: so you have the most accurate information to guide your decisions.

At College Rocqet, I build a personalized research tracker for every student. We don't just look at rankings; we continuously refine your list based on your evolving interests and goals, ensuring every school on your list is there for a reason.

Stop following outdated advice. Start building a list that actually works for you.

Stop founding clubs. Start solving problems.

In 2026, admissions officers aren't looking for a long list of "President" or "Founder" titles. They’ve seen it all. What they’re actually hunting for is impact.

A title is just a label. A solution is a story.

Instead of starting a club that meets once a month just to "discuss" an issue, go out and fix a small piece of it.

- Instead of "Founder of the Environmental Club," try building a community composting program for your neighborhood.
- Instead of "President of the Tutoring Club," show how you mentored local middle schoolers to improve their math grades by 20%.

Solving real problems shows leadership, initiative, and grit: the traits that actually get you noticed by top schools.

At College Rocqet, we help you audit your activities to move from "busy" to "impactful." Let’s build a profile that actually says something about who you are.

Junior year is a marathon, not a sprint, and we are officially hitting the home stretch.

I know the pressure is starting to build, but having a solid Game Plan is the best way to swap that stress for confidence. Right now, it’s all about setting yourself up for a smooth transition into senior year.

Here is what you should be focusing on this spring:

1. Update that resume. Don’t wait until the fall to remember what you did in February! Capture your leadership roles and projects while they are fresh.

2. Finalize your summer. Whether it’s an internship, a volunteer gig, or an online course, make sure your summer has a purpose that aligns with your goals.

3. Organize your timeline. Breaking big tasks into smaller weekly goals now means you won’t be scrambling when college apps open.

Keep going: you’ve got this! Being organized now is the ultimate pro-tip for a stress-free senior year.

Standardized test scores and a perfect GPA are just the entry fee. In a world with sub-5% acceptance rates, your stats won't make you stand out: your story will.

Many students think they need a "world-changing" event for their personal statement. They search for tragedy or massive triumph. But the most powerful Ivy League essays often come from the "mundane" moments.

Why? Because how you reflect on a rainy Tuesday says more about your character than a trophy does.

Pro-tip: Don't just list what you did. Tell us why it matters to who you are becoming. Self-reflection is the secret sauce that turns a regular application into a "must-admit."

At College Rocqet, we help you dig deep into those small moments to find the big themes. Being concise is wise, but being reflective is magnetic.

Decision Week is here. You got the yes: now make the next steps easy.

After an admit, do this:
1) Compare financial aid offers (total cost, not just scholarships)
2) Visit campus or attend admitted student day
3) Email Financial Aid with questions (appeals, special circumstances, timelines)
4) Confirm your enrollment deposit deadline
5) Start housing + roommate steps ASAP
6) Send a quick thank-you to anyone who supported you (counselor, recommenders)
7) After you commit, withdraw other applications so other students can get offers
8) Keep grades up: offers can be rescinded

A decision is a redirection, not a definition of your worth.

To my students: You’ve worked incredibly hard. One envelope doesn’t change your talent, your character, or your potential.

To my parents: This is an emotional ride for you, too. Your support has been their rock, and that doesn’t change regardless of the outcome.

Decision Week is here. Whether it’s a “Yes,” a “Waitlist,” or a “No,” we have a plan.

- A “No” today? We pivot.
- A “Waitlist”? We get tactical.
- A “Yes”? We start planning the next big leap.

Whatever the news, we’re in this together. College Rocqet is here to help you navigate the emotions and the next steps with clarity and a plan.

Waitlist ≠ no.

A Letter of Continued Interest (LOCI) can absolutely move the needle: if it’s clear, specific, and easy to scan.

LOCI checklist (that admissions actually reads):
1) Re-confirm interest + why the school is a fit
2) Share 2–3 real updates (new grades, awards, leadership, research, community impact)
3) Get specific (programs, professors, campus opportunities)
4) Keep it to 1 page + professional tone

Pro-tip: Don’t re-write your whole application. Add NEW proof that you’re still growing.

Let’s talk about the big question on every parent’s mind: test-optional admissions. 🐘

A lot of parents ask me if "optional" really means optional. The short answer? Yes. The long answer? It’s all about strategy.

Test-optional gives your student the power to choose how they’re represented. If their SAT or ACT score reflects their true academic potential and is within or above a school's mid-50% range, send it. It’s another data point that says, "I can do this work."

If it doesn’t? Let their GPA, essays, and extracurriculars do the talking instead.

Pro-tip: Test-optional is not test-blind. Schools will still look at scores if they’re submitted, but they won’t penalize a student for withholding them. This shifts the weight to the other parts of the application, making a strong narrative and consistent coursework even more vital. 📝

Being strategic is wise. If a score helps them shine, it stays. If not, it goes. 💫
