Today, I thought I would share a little bit about our reason for the scholarship, Michael J. Lightfoot, or as we called him, “Pop.”
Michael was ambitious and curious as a child. He was a decorated boy scout and he demonstrated the values of thrift, bravery, reverence and loyalty throughout his life. He graduated from the University of the District of Columbia, with a degree in Computer Science in the 1970’s. Michael traveled to California to begin his career and his family. He was a devoted father of 3, grandfather of 9 and great grandfather to 3. His family was his pride and joy and he generously sowed into each and every one of their lives. Michael began his career as a computer programmer and climbed the ranks within his profession at a time when opportunities in that profession were scarce for people of color. Throughout his career he was a mentor to many employees and was generous with his time and knowledge. He was a leader who balanced results with compassion and was always ready to lend a helping hand. He finished a successful career as a senior vice president at a major corporation. He is fondly remembered by his colleagues, friends and family. He was smart. He was funny. He was kind, and he will forever be our hero. 💚
At Lightfoot Legacy, we believe that the best solutions come from the people who are most affected by the problem. We have dedicated our lives to working with these communities — providing whatever support they need in order to unlock their potential. We want all individuals to envision their goals and realize they have the ability to make their dreams a reality. 👩🏽🎓🧑🏽🎓👨🏽🎓

With great pleasure, we present to you the Michael J. Lightfoot Legacy Scholarship!
Last January, our family experienced the loss of a beloved father and grandfather, Michael J. Lightfoot, just last January. To commemorate the generosity that our father/grandfather provided, my family and I have dedicated our time to keeping his legacy alive and helping others just as he did for us. This year is our first year awarding our scholarship, and we hope to give it to an excelling candidate who will strive to be successful and impact others in the way Michael J. Lightfoot did.
Please share with family and friends and other groups or anyone you may know that would benefit from this opportunity. The scholarship is officially open as of May 16, 2022. Check out our website at www.lightfootlegacyscholars.org, and be sure to
