Why limit your child’s math homework time? Isn’t more better?
♾❤️♾ I get it, I used to think my kid had to finish all her homework every night, which led to lots of frustrations at home.
At the suggestion of a wonderful school teacher, homework was limited to 20 minutes a day. And what a difference it made! My kid was able to really focus for those 20 minutes, which meant she really got the foundational concepts down. And if I knew that she already had the foundations before starting the homework, then I had her do the last problems first so all of her time was spent challenging herself rather than doing a lot of rote work that she already had down. ♾❤️♾

When It Comes To Math, Give Kids Kernels, Not Hot Buttered Popcorn

What do you remember about math as a kid? My first memory of math was playing math facts baseball in third grade. I was the youngest kid in the class so I was really slow and one time I actually answered the math problem first and the whole class cheered. Honestly as a former homeschooler, I don’t think I really got the point until that moment that I was supposed to compete with my classmates in math. 🤪🤪 Math fact baseball is one of the most common memories that moms share with me. What’s yours? Let me know in the comments!
