If you've listened to Season 1 of Queen of the Con: The Irish Heiress then you know who Mair Smyth is but what you don’t know is that after she gets out of jail in Los Angeles and moves to the state of Maine... from 2021 to 2024 Marianne “Mair” Smyth scams people out of thousands of dollars claiming she sits on the IRA council and is running rescue missions in the Ukraine.
A victim who donated money to her fake cause recorded this phone call and sent it to me. FYI… Mary McDonald is the Sinn Féin leader and Michelle O’Neill served as deputy First Minister of Northern Ireland. Mair claims to know both of them! Earlier this year, she was arrested by US marshals and extradited the Northern Ireland. She’s sitting in a jail cell right now awaiting trial for scamming a couple dozen people in Northern Ireland out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

A lot of people have been asking... whatever happened to the pool? In Ep 1 I explain how we lost the pool in mid 2013 due to a legal spat with the neighboring condo building - which is how Con Artist Mair Smyth entered my life; exclaiming her politician boyfriend can get the pool back - no problem. Well that turned out to be a fabricated story. Shocker. We did eventually get the pool back though - in 2016 - after a legal settlement was reached between the condo building and our building. Ironically, Mair's politician boyfriend had no idea we ever lost the pool in the first place. But Mair's pool con had served its purpose by then. It gave her entry into our lives and laid the foundation for her to scam me as well as other neighbors in our building.

Mair got out of going to court A LOT by pulling scams. She pretended to have cancer to get out of paying rent. She used a pair of crutches to appear disabled. In this one she faked mental illness by pretending she tried to kill herself. The judge believed her. She got admitted to a psych ward of a mental hospital in Los Angeles and was able to skip court for weeks. Eventually she had to come back to court, dressed in a sucide gown so she couldn't hurt herself. And the judge talked to her like he was addressing his 5 year old daughter - with love and compassion and sympathy. It infuriated me. "How can he believe her?" I thought. It was a real world testament to how convincing she was. Even to a jaded, experienced judge in the Los Angeles criminal court system.
