💙 So grateful for families who trust me to be part of their child’s learning journey.

Thank you, Nora, for trusting me to support Marlene with her math this school year! Seeing her confidence grow and watching her recognize what she’s capable of has been incredibly rewarding.

I’m especially proud of the progress she’s made—not just in her math skills, but in her confidence. Seeing a student start to believe, “I can do this,” is one of the best parts of tutoring.

This is what Sí Se Puede is all about: helping K–5 students build math confidence, one step at a time.

For example:
47 + 29 = ?

Instead of adding 29 directly, make it a friendly number:
➡️ 29 → 30
➡️ 47 + 30 = 77
➡️ 77 − 1 = 76

This strategy helps students use number sense, make mental math easier, and understand how numbers can be adjusted while still keeping the answer accurate. 💙

Sometimes a math problem looks harder than it really is. One way to make it easier is to break the numbers apart using place value and solve in smaller parts.

For example:

58 + 26

➡️ Break it apart: 50 + 8 and 20 + 6
➡️ Add the parts: 50 + 20 = 70 and 8 + 6 = 14
➡️ Put it together: 70 + 14 = **84**

Breaking numbers apart helps students use place value, make sense of the numbers, and solve with greater confidence.

A number line can make addition feel much more visual and manageable.

For example:

27 + 6 = ?

Instead of trying to solve it all at once:

➡️ Start at 27
➡️ Jump +3 to 30
➡️ Jump +3 more to 33

So, 27 + 6 = 33 ✅

Number lines help students see how numbers change step by step, strengthen number sense, and build confidence with addition.
