Barring any setbacks, we will be going to the Carolina Open. It will be unsanctioned this year, meaning no league. The hosting school is going at it alone. The local government is supporting this event. No one else is having tournaments for these kids. It’s been a year of no competition. If other sports can play, we can also do it safely.

In the Street try to avoid the ground, but know what to do when it goes to the ground. A strong foundation of Wrestling or Jujutsu is needed to be a complete Martial artist. Likewise grapplers need training in striking arts for practical self defense. Also a real adult Martial Artist needs to train with the weapons of the day, handguns in particular, not just the traditional weapons of their arts. Remember for the martial artists of centuries ago, the weapons they used were state of the art. If they’d of had guns they would have trained with them, as martial arts was a combative art. Know how to use handguns, and train in disarming and retention. Seek training from different people who specialize in certain areas.

In MMA competitions like the UFC you often see competitors immediately want to take the fight to the ground. This is fine in a one on one fight with rules. It is impractical in a fight with multiple bad guys in the Street. In the UFC the following is not allowed, stomping someone on the ground, kicking someone with a knee or hand down on the mat, hitting someone in the back of the head. No biting when someone wraps legs around you, or gouging eyes. A lot of techniques you see in the UFC would put you at a disadvantage in a street fight, especially with multiple bad guys. Jiu-Jitsu is sport, and is used as very effective self defense, especially against the untrained in one on one encounters. Notice the spelling, (Jujutsu) is a combat art, from which Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has its roots in.

All Martial Arts is not from the Far East. One of the greatest Martial Artists in the Bible was David. A warrior like no other, because God was on his side. This is the most important aspect of Martial Arts, being on the moral side, which is always on the side with God. Remember Martial Arts traditionally was the training of warriors, and had combative roots. There are many forms of Martial Arts that we have lost to time.
