Day 4 Update from Brother Shamus:

Saturday, October 10, 2026:

"Another beautiful day in New Jersey, cycling the Sandy Hook Rails to Trails in support of a cause close to our hearts — the Dorothy Day Outreach Center.

Joining fellow cyclists Sister Mary Ann, Bob Goss, and yours truly today was Sam Haddad.

Today’s ride held a special meaning as we dedicated it to Tom Kristofco, Sam’s beloved Father-in-law, who was a longtime participant in the Annual Dorothy Day fundraiser and passed into the loving arms of the Lord three years ago.
Tom’s memory continues to be part of this special journey, reminding us that the spirit of service and generosity lives on in the lives we touch and the good we do for others.

May Tom rest in the eternal peace and loving embrace of Our Risen Lord.
Please keep us in your prayers as we approach the final days of our 16th Annual Dorothy Day Ride. May God continue to bless our efforts in serving those most in need."

“Day 3 — Another Beautiful Day on the Trail! 🚴‍♂️

Today marked our third consecutive day of beautiful weather as we cycled the New Jersey’s Union Transportation Rails to Trails. Sharing the journey with fellow cyclists Sister Mary Ann, Bob Goss, and yours truly makes this adventure all the more enjoyable!

As we pedal onward, we’re reminded that this journey is about much more than cycling. It’s about faith, fellowship, and helping those in need through our support of the Dorothy Day Outreach Center at Saint Francis University in Loretto, PA.

Thank you for being part of the journey! 🙏🚴‍♂️”

An Alumni Spotlight from our SFU BSN Program:

Jolee - SFU Nursing Class 2024

"Since graduating and passing her boards, Jolee has built an impressive career as a Labor & Delivery nurse at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh 🏙️

She has helped deliver 300+ babies, cross-trained in OB Triage and the OB ICU, and recently stepped into charge nurse responsibilities 🩺 🍼👶

She’s also giving back to the profession by teaching OB clinicals at a local university 💥👩‍⚕️

From her days at SFU to leading at the bedside and inspiring the next generation of nurses—she’s putting her education into action and making an impact every step of the way! Great job, Jolee!"

Day #2 Update from Bro. Shamus:

Thursday, October 8:

Today brought another beautiful day on the Rails-to-Trails, cycling from Lambertville to Washington Crossing, New Jersey, with my wonderful fellow cyclists: Sr. Mary Ann, Bob Goss, Virginia Soltis, Jerry Laffey, and yours truly!

What began 15 years ago as a simple idea—a bicycle trip to raise funds for the poor and those in need in our community—has grown into something truly special. For 15 years, this ride has helped support the Dorothy Day Outreach Center at St. Francis University in Loretto, PA, making a real difference in the lives of our neighbors who need a helping hand.

To me, this annual journey is about so much more than cycling. It is a living expression of the Gospel message: caring for those most in need. Every mile we ride and every dollar we raise is a reminder that small acts of love and generosity can make an extraordinary difference.

And he’s off! 🚴‍♂️

Brother Shamus TOR set off yesterday on his 16th Annual Charity Ride for the Dorothy Day Outreach Center. Follow along the next seven days as we share his updates from the trail!

Wednesday, October 7:

Today marked the beginning of the 16th Annual Dorothy Day Cycle Trip, a tradition that is especially meaningful to all of us who have been blessed to be part of it.

For the next seven days, we’ll be cycling the Rails to Trails throughout New Jersey, enjoying God’s beautiful creation, good companionship, and the simple joy of being on the road together—all while raising much-needed funds for the Dorothy Day Outreach Center at St. Francis University. Most importantly, we ride for a worthy cause: helping those who are less fortunate and reminding ourselves that even a small effort can make a difference in someone’s life.

I’m especially grateful to have such wonderful companions along for all or part of this year’s journey: Sister Mary Ann, Bob Goss, Jerry Laffey, Sam Haddad, Virginia Soltis and yours truly. There is something special about sharing miles, conversations, laughter, and perhaps a few sore muscles with good friends—all for a greater purpose.

Please keep us in your prayers over the next seven days. Pray for safe travels, good weather, strong legs, and, most of all, that our efforts will help bring hope and assistance to those who need it most.

“I am a special education teacher in a self-contained autism program at Patterson Mill Middle/High School, and I am in my seventh year of teaching. When reflecting on how my education program prepared me, the SFU education program helped prepare me to think creatively and how to differentiate instruction to meet individual needs. Advice for current SFU education majors, lesson plans are important, but building rapport with students and parents is crucial.”
