Today at the annual InterServiceClub Luncheon, hosted by Soroptomist International, Altrusa International members Christy Roeber, Mary Pat Sabol, Brandi-Brown Shock and I were joined by our Special Guest, Letty Tohah, from the LBCC Foundation Scholarship team.
Long Beach Altrusa has been giving scholarships to LBCC students since the 1950’s!
Our host club did a terrific job, and we enjoyed Mayor Rex Richardson’s heartfelt opening comments about the strengths of our city and its many volunteers that are helping to shape our present and future.

🌟 February is Black History Month! 🌟 It's a time to celebrate the incredible achievements, rich culture, and inspiring contributions of the Black community throughout history.

This month, let's also shine a light on the importance of literacy for children of color. 📚✨ Every child deserves to see themselves represented in the stories they read. Black authors are shaping the literary world, offering children of color the opportunity to learn, grow, and dream big.

🌍👏 Some powerful Black authors to explore:

Maya Angelou: A beacon of wisdom, storytelling, and resilience.
Jacqueline Woodson: A beautifully authentic voice for children’s experiences.
Kekla Magoon: Boldly tackles history, social justice, and personal growth.
Jason Reynolds: Writes with passion, empathy, and a true connection to young readers.
Ibi Zoboi: Empowers children by celebrating diversity and helping them embrace their identities and experiences.

Yesterday's Fundraiser was a huge success!
From a plethora of unique auction items to Poly High School Jazz Quartet, to making new friends, and the support of District Eleven Governor April Smith, Past Governors, District Board members and members of Altrusa International clubs of Anaheim and San Diego, to LBCC Foundation CEO Paul Kaminski!
