Soft hackle scuds

Do scuds get enough love in your box?

You should plan a row for your nymph box and fish scuds.
Tailwater fisheries become more important this time of year and into winter. The water stays at a comfortable temp and they keep pumping fish the food…. Scuds.

Available all year, no hatch, just a platter of scuds and sow bugs.

I like the look of the soft hackle scud the best but really I’ve never found a scud/sow bug pattern that doesn’t work.

Throw em in your box and go hit the river or lake. I personally have really enjoyed euro nymphing these and also swinging them on a trout Spey set up.

What are some of your favorite flies to swing on a Spey rod? Maybe I’ll to some up before Saturday

I also live just trying steelhead classics even thought I’m nowhere near a steelhead river 😂🤷‍♂️
