Our Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) Jessa Kieser received the DCSD Shining Star Award.
Each year Douglas County Special Education Advisory Committee (DCSEAC) collects Shining Star nominations, from DCSD families, for staff members who have positively affected the lives of students served by Special Education.
Jessa's nomination stated she has made a huge difference in a students life both in speech development and the general quality of her school experience. Jessa has taken the time to really understand the students needs, and individualize her support. It is awesome when a 7 year old can explain what she needs to work on, and how she can do it. The students confidence and feeling of control has soared because she understands how she can help herself. Thank you, Jessa.
Congratulations Jessa! We are so lucky to have you at Acres Green! đź’š

We are excited to share an opportunity for 5th and 6th grade students at Acres Green Elementary to participate in a fun and engaging district-wide event called HEX!
Each year, PE teachers from around the district organize HEX, where students have the chance to compete against other schools in a variety of track and field events. These include the 100m and 4x4 relay races, as well as shot put (using a softball) and tug of war (a fun addition, though not a traditional track event).
The goal of HEX is to introduce students to track and field and help build awareness and interest as they transition into middle school and high school athletics.
Training Information:
Students will meet at Acres Green Elementary with Coach Cruz before school starting Monday, March 30th, leading up to the event on May 15th.
Practices will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:30 AM to 8:20 AM.
As the weather permits, practices will take place outdoors. On days with poor weather, training will be held in the gym.
What to Bring:
-A good pair of running shoes
-Water bottle
-Appropriate attire for outdoor conditions (must follow school dress code)
-If they would like a change of clothes for school
-All other school items as they will head straight to class
Event Details:
The HEX competition will take place on May 15th at Echo Park in Parker, CO.
We are currently looking into transportation options to and from the event. More details will be shared with participants as they become available.
If your student is interested in participating, please email [email protected] or have your student speak directly with Coach Cruz so we can get an accurate head count.
We are so excited to start preparing for HEX!

Each year, our school chooses two Apple Award nominees to represent Acres Green at the district celebration. This year our nominees are Kara Burroughs and Luchay Mendoza!
🍎
Kara Burroughs, our SSN teacher, is this year’s certified staff nominee! Although she is new to our school this year, Mrs. Burroughs has already made an incredible impact. She is a dedicated advocate for her students, and brings strong expertise to the SSN program. Her commitment, compassion, and steady presence have made a meaningful difference for our students and staff.
🍎
We are equally thrilled to celebrate Luchay Mendoza as our classified staff nominee. Luchay is our Cultural Liaison and an essential member of our school community. She wears many hats and excels in all of them. From serving as our temporary librarian, to supporting and interpreting for families, to now stepping into the role of administrative assistant, Luchay ensures that our students and families feel welcome, supported, and cared for each day. Her warmth, hard work, and dedication brighten our entire school.
🍎
Please join us in congratulating Kara Burroughs and Luchay Mendoza for their well-deserved nominations and for everything they do to make our school exceptional!
