Still have to add the tripods for the cooking fire, but I "think" there's room for my toothbrush! The joys of packing all the La Compagnie gear for Grand Portage rendezvous. See you all up there, very soon!

Wow! Wonderful pictures! Look at us! Great event! Hope we can do it again, someday.

Wow! Wonderful pictures! Look at us! Great event! Hope we can do it again, someday.

The new ‘Voyageur Days’ event at the Snake River Fur Post shines a light on the lives of Voyageurs in the early 1800s.

We'll be there soon!

Beginning in the 1830s, a style of 18- to 24-foot sailboat known as the Mackinaw was commonly used along Minnesota’s North Shore for a multitude of purposes, including commercial fishing, ferrying passengers, and delivering mail.

Although Mackinaw Boats fell out of use in the 1920s with the introduction of motorized vessels, one Mackinaw yet sails Lake Superior: the Paul LaPlante, built in 2000 in collaboration between Grand Portage National Monument and Grand Marais’ North House Folk School.

From August 7-9, come see the Paul LaPlante at the dock or sailing Grand Portage Bay during Rendezvous. For a full event schedule, please visit: https://www.nps.gov/grpo/planyourvisit/grand-portage-national-monument-rendezvous-days.htm
