Introductions!
Say Hi to Coconut!!
Isn’t she gorgeous?!! She is very unique,too. If you know about IRN color mutations, you might guess this girl is a Pallid Indian Ringneck because of her gender and her cream colored head but there is no Pallid gene we can find in her genetic history. What I do know is that both Dominant Pied and Dominant Edged (which she is) can lighten a bird’s color significantly. Needless to say, we were a bit surprised by her “clear” head. The light blue color has even concentrated around her neck giving her the appearance of a ring. This is likely due to the fact that she is an Opaline. (Typically, it’s the Cleartail MALE bird that loses the dark pigmentation on its head but only when it reaches maturity at 2 or 3 years old. Cleartail females keep their dark heads) The only thing we can figure out at the moment is that it may be a combination of several mutations she is expressing that has caused the appearance of her clear head. What will be interesting is to see how her color, specifically her head, changes as she matures which is why we decided to keep her. So stay tuned!!!
