Playscapes are play structures that integrate nature. They are focused on the use of natural, aesthetically pleasing materials and allow for students to engage in calculated risky play for full development of mind and body, just as is done through play in nature. The connection attributes to positive environmental impact, a deeply rooted understanding of the world, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve mental and physical health. Take a look at a few photos below and use them as inspiration to add a little nature to your child’s play space!

*Please note: these are inspiration photos and not photos of our current setup. Our goal is to create an amazing play scape using these photos as inspiration!

How we talk about food is just as important as what they are eating and how they are learning! Kids go through several growth stages, including several different levels of testing their limits! By telling a child they should eat a certain food because it’s healthy, it’s good for you, etc might trigger than to reject that food. Healthy food is often seen as bland, boring, or just yucky! By changing how we talk about food, we can encourage healthier eating and a better relationship with food. Check out these great ideas for different ages from .eat.in.color!

We are working towards becoming a certified family care provider which involves taking courses on early childhood development and learning. This was a video we watched in class and I love how important they are emphasizing free play and how they acknowledged that sometimes the play aspect gets lost as it trickles down through administration. Our littles will have plenty of time for desk time and worksheets as they grow up through the education system so we are going to play, create, and get as messy as we can while we still have the freedom to do so!
