Jacen Smith Piano

This piece is "Polonaise in G Minor," by Fredrich Chopin. A Romantic Era piece written in 1817, "Polinaise in G Minor" features many characteristic sections. The hardest part of this piece (in my opinion) is the technicality of fingerings and musicianship, especially in the middle section—very fun piece though! This piece was performed for my music recital in Spring of 2025.

This piece is "Stars and Wind," by Catherine Rollin. A 20th century piece written in 1995, "Stars and Wind" was one of the first character pieces I did. The high broken triad part in the beginning and end represents the stars and the moving pattern in the middle section represents the wind. This piece was performed for my music recital in Fall of 2024.

I wanted to start showcasing pieces I have performed, so here's a video of a piece I worked on last semester!

This piece is "Knight Ruppert," Op. 68, No. 12 from "Album for the Young" by Robert Schumann. A Romantic Era piece written in 1848, "Knight Ruppert" requires complex finger dexterity, especially in the first/last section. I was lucky to participate in a masterclass with internationally acclaimed pianist, Dr. Slawomir Dobrzanski, chair of the keyboard division at Kansas State University. Dr. Dobrzanski offered great advice on the technicality of this piece, and I am honored to have been part of the experience!
