Last month Lincoln East Speech and Debate competed at the National Speech and Debate Tournament. Lincoln East was named a School of Outstanding Distinction at the NSDA National Tournament for the third year in a row. This is the NSDA’s highest team honor, awarded to the top 10 schools that earn the most points in speech and debate at Nationals.
While, this post is highlighting the amazing success these Spartan students had, the tournament was not amazing for all students. There was an incident during the Humorous Interpretation finals, where a man who was not part of the round walked onto the stage, made a vaguely threatening comment, and reached into his backpack. This occurrence promoted nearly 4,000 people to flee in panic. Luckily, everyone was safe and our amazing coaches where there to make sure our students were safe.
While, it is important to talk about this traumatic event and hold NSDA accountable for their lack of security, response, and accountability we want to highlight the amazing achievements these students accomplished and look back to the joyous moments the team did have.
