RVA State of Mind☀️

This past March the East debate team competed at two National Qualifiers for the chance to go to Richmond, VA and compete at Nationals. As a team we were runner up at Congressional National Qualifiers and champion at National Qualifiers! We took 1 out of 6 qualifying spots in Congress and 3 out of 6 spots in the other events!

Last month Lincoln East Speech and Debate competed at the National Speech and Debate Tournament. Lincoln East was named a School of Outstanding Distinction at the NSDA National Tournament for the third year in a row. This is the NSDA’s highest team honor, awarded to the top 10 schools that earn the most points in speech and debate at Nationals.

While, this post is highlighting the amazing success these Spartan students had, the tournament was not amazing for all students. There was an incident during the Humorous Interpretation finals, where a man who was not part of the round walked onto the stage, made a vaguely threatening comment, and reached into his backpack. This occurrence promoted nearly 4,000 people to flee in panic. Luckily, everyone was safe and our amazing coaches where there to make sure our students were safe.

While, it is important to talk about this traumatic event and hold NSDA accountable for their lack of security, response, and accountability we want to highlight the amazing achievements these students accomplished and look back to the joyous moments the team did have. In this post, we will highlight the Lincoln East debaters, but check out to see how amazing the Speech team did!

This past April, we travelled down to Lexington, Kentucky to compete at the Tournament of Champions! We were fortunate enough to take three of our Public Forum teams. Those teams consisted of Arnav Agarwal and Ronav Ganesh, Sukruth Jangala and Shriish Sathish, and Lucas Neamu and Brad Bobaru.

While we were there, we were able to enjoy the University of Kentucky campus, check out some local restaurants, and visit the Keeneland horse track.

The last senior we are celebrating is Noah!

Noah has grown and created communities not only here at East, but with other schools as well. He is constantly helping both novice and varsity members grow and continue to learn about real world issues and different debate concepts. We will miss you Noah!

The next senior we are highlighting is Elaine Yu. Elaine consistently goes the extra mile, whether it's helping teammates prepare for rounds, sharing her knowledge and insights, or offering to judge last minute practice rounds.
You've shown us what it means to be a true team player. She celebrates our victories as a team, and offers support and guidance during challenges. Elaine understands that our success is interconnected, and she consistently prioritize the growth and development of your teammates. We will miss you Elaine!
