📚Dictionaries Still Matter!
On Thursday, August 27, dictionaries were passed out to 13 eager third graders in Andrea Henriques’s classroom at College View Academy K-12 by Lincoln Southeast Kiwanian Kirk Powell.
We started with a fun game to see who could look up a word the fastest. Then we played a “Liars” game. An obscure word was chosen, and three students each offered a definition. Two definitions were completely made up, while one was correct. The rest of the class had to figure out who the liars were—and who was telling the truth!
The winners received a Hershey’s chocolate kiss. Of course, everyone else got one, too…along with two or three more before we were finished!
The students were amazed by all the fascinating information tucked into the back of their dictionaries. From fun facts to reference material, they discovered that a dictionary is much more than a book of words.
Dictionaries still hold an important place in today’s world—and these third graders were excited to discover why!
