Our next Salon Speaker, Hyeonju Wang, will bring her experiences and professional insights forward about an ongoing, complicated, and extremely pertinent community discussion:

❌ Access to technology as a human right.

Join us this Thursday (9/30) at the The Foundry Community to listen to topic experts from A30 Human Rights, ALLO Communications, and the Lincoln Public Libraries discuss technology’s relationship to human rights.

Our Speaker and Q+A panelists will dive into:
👉🏽 How inaccessibility has been impacting marginalized groups, here in Nebraska and around the world.

👉🏽 The importance of bridging this technological divide in our communities now.

👉🏽 And share insights and updates on how some of our community leaders have already been taking action and creating positive change.

While the pandemic has noticeably accelerated our society’s widespread dependence on technology - from online learning to remote work - severe inequalities in the access to technology has already existed for several decades.

Basic services that many of us take for granted - like 5G internet - have largely been inaccessible to rural communities and lower-economic classes. And so, with the “new normal” shifting towards an even more technology-reliant world, an important conversation arises:

❌ Is access to technology a human right?

Led by local expert Hyeonju Wang of A30/ (Article 30 Human Rights), this Salon will dive into the roots of technology’s relationship to human rights, exploring how inaccessibility has been impacting marginalized groups for years and highlighting the importance of our leaders bridging this technological divide today.

With a focus on access to technology in education, in business, and to the general public, Wang and our Q+A panel of local experts will apply data-driven insights to this complex and increasingly important discussion.

❌ Featuring Q+A Panelists: Traci Glass from the Lincoln Public Libraries, and Brad Moline from Allo.
❌ Thursday, September 30th at 6 pm to 8 pm. Doors open at 5:30.
❌ Held in-person at the Foundry, in the 3rd floor conference room (Masks will be required.)
❌ Tickets are $5 - If cost is a barrier, please email us at [email protected] to discuss options.
❌ Bring a notebook - networking, questions, and discussion is encouraged!

A few takeaways from last week’s Salon: ❌

1️⃣Our bodies are everything and nothing about us at the same time. They are the vehicles by which we experience the world, from the inside out. They don’t exist to be shaped, altered, or posed - because we ourselves don’t.

2️⃣We exist to savor and cherish every beautiful, sensual experience this life has to offer, and our bodies are the miracles that let us experience it.

3️⃣Moving your body simply because it feels good is healthy for the soul. Reconnect with movement as it means to inhabit your body, rather than a sole focus on the physical results.

4️⃣Change is natural for the body, but it will still be the same one you will always have. You’re in a lifelong relationship with it. Celebrate, be present, and take care of this incredible thing that will always be with you.

5️⃣Allow space for complexity in your life. It’s nature for things to get messy, whether we see it on our social media feeds or not. So let’s all give ourselves and each other a little more grace... and a lot more hugs.

Thank you sincerely to everyone who was a part of Human Psyche:

Renewal, openness, and warmth. ❌

Just a few of the words that shaped the journey we’ve been on this past month, inspired by our Human Psyche Salon Producer.

After a rough year for our entire team, we knew that one of our 2021 Salons needed to focus on health - and not just physical health, but how it is intertwined with our mental and spiritual well-being.

The producer of tomorrow’s Salon, Kelsey Wheeler, has done a genuinely incredible job taking this seed of an idea, and nurturing it into her own vision. “An event that is intimate, safe to be vulnerable, and inspires the transformation of our internal experiences into a happier and healthier life.”

And is there a more perfect space for this journey than The Urban Farmhouse Room?

We can’t wait to see you there tomorrow evening! Please bring your journal, a mask, and an open heart.

Tickets are still available on Eventbrite and on our Events Page!

Balance is all about practice - not perfection. ❌

A balanced life looks different for everyone. The food we eat, the exercise we give our bodies, and the personal care our minds need is all part of a lifelong relationship with ourselves that is constantly evolving. Yoga and other similar practices that foster internal awareness are tools to help us achieve an understanding of what balance means for us in each moment - and to find peace with the reality that life rarely is “perfect.”

We’re excited to be featuring a giveaway from Lincoln Yoga Center for three free classes to help you deepen - or jumpstart - your practice!

Join us for an evening of community-building, mindfulness, and an insightful talk by body-image expert, Jamie Keeton, MA, PLMHP, of Wild Fig Psychotherapy.

The sweet side to mindful eating, catered by Lincoln’s new vegan cottage bakery - Chunky Monkey Bakery! ❌

Somewhere in between childhood and today, a lot of our relationships with dessert became a little distorted. Low calorie. Low carb. “Healthy” and often heavily processed substitutions, for one of the things that we should most freely enjoy during a celebration or holiday.

For some, the reason for this negative relationship with sweets is an imbalance of quantity vs. quality. For others, it can be a matter of guilt, self-punishment, or the way we perceive our bodies. So how can we change the relationship we have with our food, nutrient balance, and bodies?

One of the solutions is in mindful eating - a subject Jamie Keeton, founder of Wild Fig Psychotherapy, will touch on in her Talk at our upcoming Salon, and a practice she’ll guide us through with some delicious vegan-friendly treats!

We’re excited to be featuring her as part of our Salon in ONE WEEK(!) and to learn how we can become part of a healthier Lincoln - inside and out.

Why is it that we sometimes feel at war with ourselves? ❌

Whether it’s with our bodies, with the conditions of our lives, or inside of our minds - it’s no coincidence that we’re all fighting something that’s a part of ourselves. Technology has erased the boundary between the outside world and our private experience - simultaneously feeding us a constant message of perfectly curated snapshots of other peoples’ worlds, and becoming the epicenter of how we experience our daily life.

And with the pandemic pushing the requirement for constant digital connection even deeper, the perceptions of what our bodies, our relationships, and our lives “should” look like has become even more distorted. So how can we see things clearly again?

Helping people break through this distortion and to find peace with themselves is what Jamie Keeton does best. Founder of Wild Fig Psychotherapy, she specializes in body image, chronic illness, and trauma.

We’re excited for her to be our Speaker for our next Salon, Human Psyche: An exploration into the root causes of technology’s negative impact on our perceptions, body image, and relationship with food - and the mental steps we can take to create a new, healthy experience.

Oh, and how could we forget the most important part about our Salon? The friendly pups! ❌

We can't express our appreciation enough to everyone who brought their dog to our Humane Consumption Salon on July 16th! The plant giveaway? The airplane toss competition and pepper eating contest?
