Any kind of therapy is all about gains made by repetition. Educational therapy is no different.
The techniques used exclusively by educational therapists build connections in the brain that contribute to new patterns of thinking.
This is good news for students who have trouble with things like memory, focus, concentration, problem solving, processing speed, and visual/auditory discrimination.
All students have to do is show up and give their best, then let the therapy do the rest!

Psychology and educational therapy can work together to help students who struggle with fluid reasoning. What is fluid reasoning? Think of it this way:
"...fluid reasoning is what we call the learning of new ‘tricks’ or the solving of new problems...This type of learning is ‘fluid’ in that it does not build up over time. Fluid reasoning does not require background knowledge. Rather, this type of thinking requires a person to problem solve in a new way with new materials and with ‘new rules’."
The link here does a really great job of explaining it more. As an educational therapist, I help students who struggle with this area of cognition and use techniques to help them develop this kind of thinking.
