END OF AN ERA

Where we were challenged by tough but unforgettable teachers, where deep friendships were born and even a few marriages too lol. Salient wasn’t just a school, it was a foundation for life.

Years later, those friendships are still here proof that what we shared was real, strong, and lasting. Within those walls, we laughed, we stumbled, we grew, we found our voices and our purpose

The gates may close, but the memories, the lessons, and the love will live on in every one of us.

Thank you, Salient, for shaping who we are.

We once stood here always trying to hide behind others no one wanted to lead the queues except the disciplined ones and the teacher's favourites. Probably most of us in dark grey skirts or trousers with the 'Pharisees' in navy blue blazers, who would end their speeches with "I expect maximum cooperation" but ended up receiving none.

I celebrate you all today because you are indeed heroes.

Happy mashujaa from your favourite admin

Continuation for teacher's preview.

Mr. Githae the principal alias Bokono. He got that name from the set book Kifo Kisimani. why he deserved that title I don't know also.
Bokono was the best he was one understanding person from what I hear because we never got to interact on a personal level
He remains outstanding because he transformed Salient. He joined the school and put all the rules upside down
One of the painful ones is that he abolished snacks. Sasa snacks ni kitu ya kunyima watu nkt. But it was a good thing all the same because some idiots used to carry a whole box of biscuits and 5 litres of jyus while us the peasant's children only used to carry juice cola. Now the rules favoured everyone. Only carry a 400g loaf of bread, blue band, chocolate and sugar.
Did I mention he was so good in mathematics. Oh yes. He was among the best especially the topic on 3-D. You can be my witness if you happened to be in his class because at times you were supposed to look at the blanc board and you should see an invisible diagram. Now this is the interesting part.. being the principal of course he was a busy person so the only time to teach Maths was during the morning preps at 4:00am. One person dozes off and the whole class is punished. Everyone to run around the classes until he was satisfied. We would know the culprit because she was the one to clear the board. I'm saying she because he never allowed boys to do it. He wanted to admire God's creation.. and I quote him "yes clean the board let us see what God gave you" saizo his glasses are somewhere near the nose. Interesting days.
Another absurd rule was running everywhere like penguins. Suddenly it changed from a school to a training camp. So for him it was just coming up with the rules.. there was a special human who implemented them... Mr Kanyari. My favourite of them all...

To be continued for Mr Kanyari. This one needs a whole novel

Today I've allowed my intrusive thoughts to win. I want to remember some of our favourite teachers back in Salient.

Ms Mwebia. This was one bitter sweet teacher akikupenda atakupenda na roho moja and vice versa. She was known for 3 major things.
1. Her exquisity when it came to Eng/Lit. She was the best I must say and her class was always fun.
2. Her fashion was beyond average. Blended with her height my goodness it was sth to die for with a Ka little touch of makeup and hairstyle wacha Tu shida she had those beautiful eyes which turned into sth else when you are in the wrong or when she was on duty pale kwa DH ata githeri haikua na ladha. Ni k**a hakua anataka tukule jameni.
3. She was our drama/music teacher. If you happened to be in the club during her stint you know the mad fun we had with her around.
Wherever she is we dearly miss her don't you agree?

Mr Mathitu
Aaaaah this was more of a father figure than a teacher. Forget about those who dint get anything in his physics class.. did you ever be where he was in the extra curricular? I bet not. He was the games teacher if I'm not wrong and everything had to be perfect. Shida sasa anaeza shout until you forget your second name. I heard he left Salient to be the principal somewhere else. Good things happen to good people right?
But when it comes to sports we can't talk about Mr Mathitu and leave out Mr Kamau. You all remember him right. I was never in any of his Maths or Chemistry classes but I got to experience his aura during games outside school and during the science Congress although I was there to hold the backdrops.. I was never a book person that's why I remember so much about the extra curricular activities. Did I mention vile Kamaa alikua anapiga luku? Simple and classy Hadi the girls in 4w were fighting over him 😂 aaah let me stop there for today.... To be continued

Once in a while I like revisiting the memories in Salient especially when I come across a few individuals on this platform. Today's post has been inspired by Gabriel Muriithi Congratulations are in order on your graduation. So today I'll be brief because I want to analyze the classes that were there during my stint.

Salient class of 2009. To us they were an inspiration. Must be the last class that had heavily built girls and boys but today I'll call them ladies and gentlemen. Getting a C+ from this class was a miracle on its own. The only class that only had male students in the physics class. I can't recall all of them but I can't fail to remember Congestina. I was shocked that her real name was Ruth.

Salient class of 2010
My apologies are in order because I can barely recall what was special about them. I have a vague image of some of them lakini ata headboy ama headgirl sikumbuki.

Salient class of 2011.
The likes of kina Gabriel Muriithi. This was by far the class with the most intelligence. Ooh I'm jealous. Their mean score was unheard of. This people were the most 'focused' when it came to books. I put focused in quotes because that's where they hid their hypocrisy yaani they were the most immoral ones if you know you know. I can recall most of them especially the ever serious no nonsense headgirl - Mercy Kiarie. Class of 2011 you left a legacy please keep upholding it

Salient class of 2012
This must have been the confused lot. They dint really know what they wanted whether it's books or too much play. The mean score for this class was only high because of the repeaters from 2011. They had Tu small small group of friends so it was actually hard to put an assumption for the whole lot. And oh this is the class that was trying to juggle between rules and no rules. I guess I can recall some of them. Who was the most notorious though? I can't pin point. Most of them were

Salient class of 2013
These ones really tried hard to maintain the legacy that was left by the 2011 class. Unfortunately it came in at time when they had to switch the principal not sure though but as much as they were bright students they were also the most crooked. They were always mentioned at the assembly. I'm sure it was a few individuals fuelling the bad name but sadly the whole lot carries the cross

That's all for today. I was definitely in one of these classes 🤦🏻‍♀️
