Playful watercolors created in Lexington, Virginia

08/09/2026

Well, I think it’s about time I reintroduce myself, because today MWD turns EIGHT! 🎉 So hi, I’m Merryn, a 2020 Virginia Tech Interior Design grad turned watercolor artist creating in my hometown of Lexington, Virginia. I’ve loved art for as long as I can remember, and it’s a dream come true that I get to do this as my job. When I’m not creating, you can find me working in the garden with Piper, loitering at Downtown Books and pestering my mom, or in the Main Street Lexington office helping plan a community event!

Today marks 8 years since I made this account to share my work, not knowing where it would go, but very sure it would only ever be my hobby. But today is also 5 years since I quit my job in Richmond right in the middle of a meeting with my boss, only to walk out and realize what day it was. It felt like a confirmation from God that I was meant to pursue my art in the town I love, which I think He’d been trying to tell me for a while. A few weeks later I moved home, and haven’t regretted it for a second.

I’ve done a lot of “learning by doing” (and screwing up), experimenting, pivoting, and painting since starting MWD from my room in the ADPi house, and I’m thankful for every bit of it. In recent months, I’ve found fresh creativity after nearly a year with none, and I owe that to the friends and family who have enthusiastically supported me behind the scenes… they were excited about what I was creating when I couldn’t be. And you know the best part? It’s only getting better.

Thank you so much for following along, whether you’ve been around for all 8 years or just got here. 🫶

Welcome to Piper's Print Club—a snail mail subscription that arrives at your door full of art prints, stickers, and bookmarks every single month! Because I am who I am, I named this club after my four-legged coworker, who, ironically, loses her mind over the sound of the mail slot every day. I'm so unbelievably excited to finally be launching this new offering after so much work behind the scenes on logistics, pricing, test prints, and TONS of designing, all with Piper napping at my feet.

My hopes for this print club are wide-ranging, but ultimately I wanted to create an affordable opportunity for folks to not only receive (or gift!) new seasonal art each month, but to experience the excitement of opening a physical envelope with something joyful inside. In a world that is becoming increasingly more automated, people are itching for the slow, personal touch that comes with receiving a letter in the mail.

Each element is intentionally designed as its own mini collection, and every piece is brand new and exclusive to the subscription. You'll be receiving more than $40 worth of art for just $12 each month, and can expect to get:

One 5×7 miscellaneous seasonal fine art print
One 5×7 seasonal landscape fine art print
One vinyl sticker
One double-sided bookmark
And a monthly mini newsletter with information about your new art, upcoming releases, and other fun surprises!

To receive each month's mailing on time, make sure you place your order before the 20th! Envelopes will leave my studio by the 25th, and any remaining orders placed later in the month will leave a few days after that. So if you sign up in August, you'll still receive August's collection! I'll also be designing a month ahead, so the collection you receive will always be seasonally appropriate for the month we're starting.

There’s just something about the Lexington Brick.💖

My interpretation of the Lexington Brick was one of my very first designs in 2018, was featured on my very first yard of fabric, and remains the subject of my best sellers. I started painting these originals in fun colors last year, and have been touched by how folks have gravitated to them as keepsakes and gifts! They seem to spark a lot of conversation, and I’ve loved hearing why people love our little town.

A variety of colors, both matted and framed, can be found at Downtown Books Lexington, Virginia! Or, you place your order in the Commissions Shop (link in bio) and choose the perfect color for your home.

There are some views that never get old, and House Mountain is one of them. 🏔️✨

I’m excited to share “House Mountain Sunset,” one of my newest landscape prints, inspired by a local landmark that feels like home to so many of us.

It’s available now on my website and at Downtown Books Lexington, Virginia in three sizes. There’s even a large framed Giclée print on display in the shop waiting for its new home!

To inquire about larger sizes, send me an email from the link in my bio to chat.

Meanwhile between commissions…🎨✨

When I’m not working on custom pieces, you’ll usually find me creating artwork inspired by some of the things I love. These watercolors from a trip to Florida in March feature a few coastal favorites- a fish, some oysters, and a sand dollar, and they’ve been such a fun project to bring to life.

Which one catches your eye first?

Designing for weddings is extra special when it’s for family, and I had the honor of creating a fully custom suite of invitations and day-of stationery for my cousin Blakeley and her new husband Tyler’s April wedding!

Her love of pink and flowers was on full display at in her invitation suite, signage, and crest. Their pups Waylon and Cooper even made a cameo on the bar sing and mini cow bells, the perfect touch for these Mississippi State grads.

Cheers to the Patricks! 🥂
