On the 4th anniversary of my sister's death...

I want to reshare this tale of two humans. 💙

In the hardest moments, the way people respond can stay with you forever — for better or worse.

In a world of human number 1s, be a human number 2.

Has a kind stranger ever shown up for you when you needed it most?

I'd love to hear your story below. 🫶🏻

It's been 4 years since my sister Summer died unexpectedly. 💔

While I'm no longer incapacitated by grief like I was in the early days, in some ways, the more time passes, the worse it feels.

It's been longer since I've heard her voice and her laugh, longer since I've hugged her, longer since I've picked up the phone to call her.

While I know she's always with me, it can feel like she's slipping further away from me — and I hate it.

Because she's my big sister, until 4 years ago, I'd only known a life with her in it.

We spent our younger years singing our hearts out to the musical Newsies, having sleepovers on our trampoline, making nunchucks out of coat hangers after watching 3 Ninjas, and rescuing drowning beetles in the pool every summer.

She was a really good big sister (most of the time!).

She'd read to me, take me to movies, and rub my feet while we watched Hey Dude together.

Of course there was also the time she couldn't wake me up for school, so after the 3rd attempt she tore the covers off me and sprayed me with water while blowing a fan on me. 🤣

Or the time we were playing "spa" and she said she had to apply my egg white face mask with a piece of bread — so I laid there while she dipped the bread in a bowl of egg and wiped it all over my face. 🫣

After high school she moved away for college and then eventually to New Zealand with her wife.

We didn't live in the same city again for almost 20 years.

But in the last 7 years of her life, we got that closeness back.

She lived near me, we worked together at GGS every day, and we navigated the best and hardest parts of life together.

She's the person I'd call when I was happy, excited, struggling, or just needed to vent.

She was one of the most important people in my life.

Those are the bookends of my life. Her at the beginning, and her right up to the end.

My brain didn't just love her. It was built around her, and every day it has to navigate doing life without her.

It's not just that she's gone. It's that I can't call her. I can't vent to her. We don't get to do life together anymore.

And it's brutal.

If you've lost someone important to you, no matter how long ago, I see you. 💔

The number of people who talk themselves out of starting because they're not sure they're doing it "right" — y'all, it breaks my heart. 💔

I've been in this industry 20+ years, and I'll tell you what actually moves the needle: showing up, and then showing up again.

The "optimal" stuff only matters once you've got something to optimize.

Starting with literally *any* sort of movement > perfect-on-paper every single time.

Gimme a 🙌🏻 below if you agree!

Is heavy lifting during pregnancy actually safe? 🤰🏼🏋️‍♀️

If you’ve ever been told:

“Don’t lift heavy when you’re pregnant,”

…and lifting is a big part of your life and identity — you may feel confused or frustrated.

So is that even true?

Let’s break down the context and nuance. 👇🏻

First things first:

For healthy pregnancies, resistance training (with medical clearance) at moderate intensities and loads is generally safe and well tolerated.

It’s even associated with lower rates of things like:

✔️ gestational diabetes
✔️ high blood pressure
✔️ anxiety & depression

But when it comes to lifting heavy, that nuance is important.

For example:

🤔 What does “heavy” actually mean?
🤔 How heavy is too heavy during pregnancy?
🤔 And what does the research on trained lifters really show?

In this post, I break down:

📝 how researchers define “heavy” in pregnancy studies
🧠 what newer research has measured in real time (like fetal heart rate & blood flow)
😮‍💨 why breath holding & exertion matter
💪🏻 which signs & symptoms should always guide decision-making

The takeaway isn’t “everyone should lift heavy” or “no one should lift heavy.”

Context matters, experience matters, and individualized decision-making is key.

Swipe through to see what the science actually says — and how to think about heavy lifting during pregnancy in an informed, practical way — free of fear and shame!

🗣️ Dear health and fitness pros,

Please stop telling new moms you’ll help them “get their pre-baby body back.” 🗣️

Telling a woman you’ll help her “get her pre-baby body back” is not only untrue (she can’t un-have her baby) — it preys on the insecurities of women who are often at their most vulnerable (even if that’s not your intention!)

Women go through enormous:

✅ anatomical
✅ physiological
✅ psychological

..changes during pregnancy and birth — often with very little information or support about how to feel better in their bodies.

Women deserve to work with coaches who understand what they’ve been through — and who know how to help them.

To be clear, just because it’s not possible for a woman who’s given birth to get her “pre-baby body back,” doesn’t mean you can’t help her feel more:

🔥 strong
🔥 capable
🔥 confident
🔥 resilient
🔥 and comfortable in her body

Walking and strength training are two of the most underrated activities for health and longevity.

What do you think?

Agree or disagree?

08/10/2026

I've said it a hundred times, but I'll keep saying it because it's THAT important.

🗣️ You don't have to want big muscles to need strength training! 🗣️

Even if getting "jacked" is nowhere on your list, lifting weights is still one of the most powerful things you can do for your body as you age — especially through the menopause transition.

It's important for:

🦴 strong bones
💪🏻 healthy joints
👵🏻 long-term independence
⚕️ healthy body composition
😊 mental health & mood
🧠 brain health
🔋 energy levels
💤 sleep

…and more.

It really is about as close as we've got to a magic pill for aging. 💊

And the best news?

It's never too late to start — and you don't need to be doing it perfectly to get the benefits.

If you wanna know exactly where to begin…

👇🏻 Follow me, then comment "STRENGTH40" below 👇🏻

…and I'll DM you our FREE Menopause & Strength Training Cheat Sheet!

In this Cheat Sheet, you'll learn:

✅ How menopause and aging affect your muscle & bone health

✅ The benefits of strength training at midlife

✅ Exactly how to strength train at midlife — how often, how many sets & reps, and how heavy to lift

✅ How much protein & how many calories you need to build muscle

…and much more!

⬇️ Reasons to Follow or Unfollow Me ⬇️

OK I couldn't fit everything on one slide — so I expanded a bit here!

✅️ I believe health and fitness is about so much more than how our bodies look.

✅️ I believe when women feel strong, confident, and empowered, we're harder to manipulate and control. (No wonder they've wanted us small and weak for so long!)

✅️ I believe in science, evidence, and citing your sources, and I believe in changing your mind when you're presented with new evidence.

✅️ Because I believe in science. I know health is impacted by things like sexism, racism, ableism, classism, homophobia, and transphobia, and this informs the work we do at Girls Gone Strong.

✅️ I believe individual responsibility matters, and there's a lot about our health we don't have direct control over, things like:

* our genetics
* our adverse childhood events (ACES)
* our water and air quality
* the walkability of where we live
* the policies that determine who gets access to medicine and healthcare

✅️ Speaking of medication, I don't think taking medication makes you weak or broken. I take medication for ADHD and Hashimoto's, and I'm super grateful to have access to it!

✅️ I do all the "right" things (e.g. strength train, cardio, manage my stress, get enough sleep, eat lots of fiber and protein) and I still think going to therapy for the last 18 years is the single best thing I've done for my health.

✅️ I don't stress about drinking diet soda or eating seed oils.

✅️ I believe being a health and fitness coach for women is one of the most powerful jobs in the world.

I said it earlier: when women feel strong, confident, and empowered, we're harder to manipulate and control. You get to help make that happen. That's massive! Don't sleep on it! 🫶🏻

Still here? Then you're my people! 💙

Think you know someone who would vibe with me? I'd be grateful if you sent this to them! 🙏🏻

I was diagnosed with ADHD in 2021.

Since then I've:

✅️ done 30 neurofeedback sessions
✅️ done therapy with an ADHD specialist
✅️ tweaked my nutrition
✅️ made huge lifestyle & behavior changes

AND — I still need help managing it.

So earlier this year I started taking meds, and they completely changed my life.

Reminder: there's no shame in taking medication if you need it. 💙
