New to the nest, get to know Transition Specialist Carly Donelson!
Q: What inspired you to pursue your career?
A: Throughout my career, I have become increasingly passionate about helping students with disabilities prepare for life beyond high school. I believe that transition planning should begin early and be woven into a student’s educational experience at every age. Providing students with meaningful opportunities to explore their interests, develop skills, advocate for themselves and envision their futures is essential.
Q: What has surprised you so far about Cotting School or working at Cotting?
A: The support has been what has surprised me most. It has been amazing to be welcomed into the Cotting community and accepted for who I am, as well as for what I do and what I am passionate about. I’ve really appreciated how supportive and encouraging everyone has been.
Q: What makes working at Cotting meaningful to you?
A: The impact I can have on students and their families as they navigate their time at school and prepare for the transition into adult life. Supporting students through these important milestones has always been a passion of mine, and I’m thrilled to be part of a community that values and embraces that work. It is incredibly rewarding to know that I can play a role in helping students build confidence, independence and a meaningful future.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your role so far?
A: What I enjoy most about my role so far is meeting the students. Getting to know them, learning about their interests and personalities, and building connections with them has been incredibly rewarding. I’m excited to continue getting to know each student and finding ways to support them.
Q: What is your favorite hobby or activity outside of work?
A: I love reading, putting together Legos, playing video games and going to the beach.
