Trauma Sensitive Yoga
with Karen Kwass, MSW, RYT-500, TCTSY-300

6-week virtual series (zoom)
Monday Mornings 10:00 – 11:00
October 17 – November 21, 2022

What to expect:
A gentle yoga practice with modifications, breathing exercise, guided meditation, self-compassion and kindness practices. Gentle movements, meditations, and breathing exercises guide you into deeper self-insight and allows the body to release old wounds and leads you to feel more balanced, grounded, embodied, focused, present and at peace. No yoga experience necessary, all are welcome.

Benefits of trauma sensitive yoga:
• release tension from body and mind
• become more attuned to your body and what is happening in the present moment
• increase self-awareness and self-compassion
• learn techniques for self-regulation and reactions using movement and breath
• tolerate strong sensations and emotions such as anxiety
• make choices about what works best for you both in class and in daily life

Trauma Sensitive yoga offers options and choices, it is less about doing the poses right, and more about the feeling of embodiment (being within your body) within a pose. Creating a safe space, a sense of grounding and being present in the moment helps to connect to your mind and body in a way that feels right for you. We often hold old memories and trauma in our body. Trauma sensitive yoga practices allow the body to release long-held emotions and traumatic experiences as you proceed at your own pace and comfort in a safe space. With increased body awareness you may feel sensations arising in the body, and begin to cultivate an awareness of what is happening in the present moment with compassion and kindness.

To register and for more information: contact Karen at [email protected]

$108 for full series; $20 for drop-in, accepts venmo/checks

Each student is encouraged to work at their own pace, allowing stress and emotions to release from the body, and leading to a sense of calm and relaxation.

I suspect that the most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention. … When people are talking, there’s no need to do anything but receive them. … Listen to what they’re saying. Care about it. Most times caring about it is even more important than understanding it. …
A loving silence often has far more power to heal and connect than the most well-intentioned words.
