Every great show has its final curtain… and every final curtain makes way for an exciting new act!

As most of you know, Miss Carmody has stepped down as our Drama Club Director. While we are heartbroken to see her leave this role, we completely understand as she continues to accomplish so many amazing things — and we are SO PROUD OF HER!

Miss Carmody has poured countless hours, endless creativity, dedication, and so much heart into building our Drama Club into the program it is today.

Because of her, our students have had a place to step outside their comfort zones, discover new talents, build confidence, express themselves, make unforgettable memories, and experience the magic of performing arts.

Miss Carmody, thank you for building the stage for so many students to shine. Your impact won’t disappear when the curtain closes — it will live on in every student you’ve encouraged and every memory you’ve helped create.

We will miss you more than you know!

But as they say in theatre…

THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

And we are excited to announce that Miss Carmody is officially passing the spotlight to our new Drama Club Directors…

Mrs. Sparks and Mrs. Gray are excited to build upon the incredible foundation Miss Carmody has created while bringing some new ideas, adventures, and a little bit of their own magic to the stage!

There are new memories to make, new characters to discover, new stories to tell, and plenty of opportunities for our students to LEARN, GROW & SHINE!

We can’t wait to see what this next act has in store.

This video comes from our summer alumni get together in the Playhouse. This is a number we did numerous years ago that I remember at the time thinking they hated but of course they really didn’t. Watching them sing this together that night and try to remember the choreography (and then ultimately…NOT remember the choreography 😉) and have so much fun just being with each other was incredible to watch.

Dolly sure knew how to bring people together.

There are some posts that are easy to write, and then there are the ones you put off because putting the words on paper makes the decision feel real. This is one of those.

After a great deal of thought, I have made the difficult decision to step down as Drama Director. For the past 14 years, this program has been so much more than creating theatre. It has been a place where students found confidence, discovered talents they didn't know they had, built lifelong friendships, and learned they belonged. Watching those moments happen made me a better teacher and a better human.

This decision has nothing to do with loving this program any less. In fact, it's because I love it so much that I know it deserves someone who can give it everything it needs. As I begin my new role as elementary principal, I know I can't give this program the time and energy it deserves. At the same time, the transition Lewis Street Playhouse is experiencing is leaving us without a dedicated performance space. This has created challenges that make this role even more demanding. Our students deserve someone who can give this program everything it needs, and right now, I know that can't be me.

To every student who trusted me, made me laugh, challenged me, and poured your heart onto the stage—thank you. You have changed me far more than I ever changed you. I will carry every late rehearsal, every standing ovation, every inside joke, and every proud moment with me.

To the families, volunteers, and community members who believed in this program and supported it so faithfully, thank you. You helped create something truly special for our kids.

Closing this chapter is heartbreaking but I know it's the right decision. I will always be cheering for this program and I can't wait to see where it goes next.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your stories. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life. 💛

🎉Meet the cast of FOOTLOOSE! 🎶 This high-energy musical is based on the cult classic film that celebrates the power of music, movement, and standing up for what you believe in. Performances take place July 16–19 and 23–26, inviting audiences to kick off their Sunday shoes for an electrifying theatrical experience!

The actors at the heart of this unforgettable story are Maurice Silas as Ren McCormack, Morgan Jennings as Ariel Moore, Caleigh Twaddle as Rusty, Conall Wolfmeyer as Willard Hewitt, Patrick Hedges as Reverend Shaw Moore, Gretchen Wolfmeyer as Vi Moore, Miller Robertson as Chuck Cranston, Mekia Gay as Ethel McCormack, and Charly Nicholson as Urleen.

The rest of this talented ensemble cast includes Dylan Epperson, Trey Ehrhart, Nate Greving, Victoria Haubrich, Gabby Hanchett, Michael Hark, Jana Hinds, Enitan Jones, Grace Meyer, Glory Messan, Jack Miller, Nicolas Moore, Dominic Regner, Adriana Schmidt, Leah Vandament, Cheyenne VanMeter, Bailey Winking, Randy Wolfmeyer, and Matthew Zehnle.

The creative team working together to bring FOOTLOOSE to the stage includes Lydia Wagner as Director, Bella Green as Vocal Director, Sjon Jones as Choreographer, Rebecca Washington as Conductor, Ruth Kummerow as Stage Manager, Tony Dibernardo as Scenic Designer, Wesley Cone as Lighting Designer, Ben Argenta Kress as Costume Designer, and Hannah Komperda as Props Manager.

“FOOTLOOSE is an energetic and joyful story about the power of self-expression to heal, grow, and connect,” says Director Lydia Wagner. “For fans of the 1984 movie, don't worry, all your favorite songs will be on stage, plus a few new songs that we know audiences will love! Our incredible cast and creative team have already had so much fun bringing this iconic music to life. On the surface, FOOTLOOSE is the story of a town where dancing is illegal. But in between all the showstopping singing is a story of a community trying its best to connect with one another and the surprising way that connection finds us all.”

Today was Kori Rossmiller’s last day walking through the halls of Highland Elementary. This girl’s light has not only shone brightly on our stage but in our rehearsal room and in these hallways as we prepared for so many shows.

We are so proud of Kori and all she has achieved and we are so excited to see the amazing impact she will have on the world!

Former Cougar Camden Scifres will be making his 54 Below debut this June and we couldn’t be more proud! This stage has hosted so many incredible Broadway legends and we are so excited to see Camden’s name added to that prestigious list!

We have so many Cougars out there doing amazing things!
