Today's children are navigating an increasingly complex world that can impact their nervous system's sense of safety. When children don't feel safe, their bodies prioritize survival over learning. The world we live in now, the scope of childhood today, is SO different than the past. In fact, during our Train the Trainer professional development we take the time to do a deep dive about how the scope of childhood is different, and the impact it has on your students learning. This is always a fascinating and engaging conversation.
Bottom line: A dysregulated nervous system will always prioritize survival over learning. Supporting regulation through connection, predictability, help students feel safe enough to engage and learn. Try to keep this list in mind when you are frustrated with your students, growing up in 2024 is a wild ride 🤪
