CONGRATULATIONS to our FFA Chapter students!!

On October 13, 2026, Agriscience and Natural Resources students in the Wexford-Missaukee FFA chapter competed in the 2026 FFA Region 6 Ag Decathlon at the Ogemaw County Fairgrounds.

Wexford-Missaukee had 15 teams competing, with 6 teams placing in the top 10 and receiving medals. The first-place award winners were Nathan Fisk (Cadillac HS), Aubin Allee (Pine River HS), and Sam Gaffke (Cadillac HS). The second-place team was Violet Kovacs (Lake City HS), Ella Ziegler (Lake City HS), and Katie Quist (McBain HS). The third-place team was Bishop Stanley (Manton HS), Grayson Vesey (Marion HS), and Liberty Morelle (Cadillac HS). Students who placed 4th were Kryssi Carter (McBain HS), Kegun Posey (Cadillac Innovation HS), and Mackenzie Myers (Cadillac Innovation HS). The group that earned fifth place was Ella Bennett (Cadillac Innovation HS), Jayni Jones (Cadillac Innovation HS), and Ethan Russ (Cadillac Innovation HS). Students who earned 7th-place awards were Bella Radtke (Marion HS), Memphis Bryant (Lake City HS), and Caydynce Hatch (Cadillac Innovation HS).

The teams competed in 10 different areas covering topics in forestry, greenhouse and floral, livestock identification and judging, vet science, and environmental skills. In addition, Pine River student Levi Welch (Pine River HS) placed fourth in tractor driving.

The teams had a month to prepare for this competition and all teams performed well. A total of 65 teams came from multiple chapters across northern Michigan. Instructor and FFA advisor Mark Johnson put it this way. “Our chapter has participated in Regional FFA Decathlon for as long as I have been here, and for a long time before that. While we have won before, this is definitely the best group performance I can remember in terms of the whole class putting in effort to learn the material and do well at the competition. Congratulations to these students for caring enough to want to do well; I’m proud of them.”

The National FFA Organization is intended to prepare students for careers in science, business, and technology of agriculture. Currently, there are close to one million members nationwide. The Pine River National Honor Society is holding a blood drive in the high school gym on Tuesday, October 20th. Appointments are available for both whole blood and double red donations. Pine River High School Hall of Fame Press Release

Pine River Area Schools reminds everyone that the Pine River High School Hall of Fame nomination deadline is approaching on October 15th.

Pine River Area Schools is proud to continue its annual Pine River High School Hall of Fame recognition program. Each year, we honor former employees, alumni, and teams who have distinguished themselves through their careers, community service, or outstanding accomplishments at Pine River and/or beyond.

This program serves as a reminder of the strong foundation built within our school district and the lasting influence our school community has on the world. By celebrating these individuals and teams, we not only honor their achievements but also inspire future generations of Pine River students to pursue excellence in their own lives.

As usual, we are asking our community, staff and alumni for nominations of former students, teachers, coaches, or teams that have made a positive difference in the lives of our students and/or school community.” The nomination forms are on our website at https://www.pineriver.org/page/hall-of-fame under Quick Links / Hall of fame.

Some important information to remember:

WHO: PRAS high school students who graduated and went on to contribute to society as a whole in a role that brings credit upon Pine River Area Schools, the area, and/or humanity, including: stand-out high school athletes or scholars; PRAS employees who significantly impacted the school and/or community; and PRAS athletic or academic teams who achieved greatness and were/are are especially symbolic of what it means to be a great team. Philanthropists, benefactors or donors will also be considered.

Timeline: June 1 - Oct 15 Nominations accepted (and are good for three
years for an individual and four years for a team)
Oct 15 - Nov 15 Search committee shall screen, research and
make final recommendation for induction

In order to maintain the highest of standards, we are asking for community help in gathering nominations. Any student, student-athlete, coach, teacher, administrator or community member from Luther, LeRoy, Tustin or Pine River High School who fits the above definition for recognition is eligible. Please help by nominating someone today!
