Bloom Homeschool Nature Co-op

I’m a great teacher.

Drawing? Not so much 😂

Honestly, I love finding a way for the kids to laugh with me, even if it’s at me. My drawings today remind me of the memes that show what animals would look like in real life if they took the shape of how kids drew them. My bear needed help 🐻

At our nature co-op today I taught on bears, hibernation, autumn shifts in weather, seasonal food, plants and their seeds. Husband prepped beds and we planted cool season crops: carrots, kale, spinach, and arugula. We enjoyed a perfect fall lunch of chicken noodle soup (chicken from our farm, halloween pasta complete with bats, pumpkins, and other ghouls), cranberries, sunflower seeds, popcorn, sourdough bread, and pumpkin muffins.

The beauty of teaching with nature as the backdrop? It’s hard to go wrong with so much inspiration right around you. (Unless you ask me to draw)

One of our favoritie late summer crafts is creating marigold garland to enjoy in fall and winter. Simple thread through the center a thick string with a needle. Hang and enjoy!

What crafts are you working on this week?

We'd love to welcome more families! Let us know if you'd like to join us this fall.

Our summer session is coming to a close, with our last gathering next week. We will be spending our celebration day on the lake, swimming, bbq-ing, and learning about the moon and stars.

In July we had one of our favorite topics, Honeybees and beekeeping. Mrs. Anna Maria, brought out some honeybees in an observation hive and harvested honey frames for the children to touch, see, smell, and taste! We extracted the honey and everyone got to take a small jar home to enjoy. We learned about beeswax and made candles, and the members of the hive and their roles.

Registration for our farm session will officially open Monday, July 27th. There will be a few changes to the format this year, so please be sure to read those and sign up as soon as you can!

We are so happy to welcome new families for the summer months!

We kicked off our first session last week with tie-dye bandanas, a color scavenger hunt, getting to know the spaces and farm, cuddles with kittens, and sharing stories and snacks.

We have a standing rule on our farm, if anyone catches a guinea we give them $20...it hadn't happened until last week 😆

Hello friends!

With the recent intense and damaging storms, our greenhouse roof was not spared. This is where our co-op classroom is and we use it every time we meet. One of our mom’s put together a fundraiser to help witht the costs of replacement. Please share if you are able, thank you 🥰
