What are some things you can expect when taking voice lessons?
The following are some things you can expect to learn and do:
ā”Gentle Warmups: Learning how to avoid jumping immediately into your highest or loudest notes is essential. You'll learn how to start with easy humming, lip trills, sirens, or comfortable scales.
ā”Coordination Development: Sounding "good" takes time. Donāt try to sound āgoodā all the time. Your teacher will likely have you make strange sounds, sing lightly, or deliberately changing your tone. This will help with overall performance as these skills are mastered.
ā”Develop Range: This is different for each person, and you'll learn to work within your range. You'll learn not to push for high notes. Range usually develops gradually. If you have to strain, squeeze, or yell to reach a note, back off and tell your teacher.
ā”Develop Attentiveness: You'll learn how to pay attention to tension. Your jaw, tongue, neck, and shoulders shouldn't feel like they're working excessively. Good singing generally feels more coordinated than forceful.
ā”Discipline: You'll need to be consistent: It's key for improvement. Even 10ā20 minutes most days can be more useful than one long session once a week.
So, how about it? Are you ready to take the first step and start a conversation about the possibility of working together?
