Week 3 of Parenting at a Glance Cohort 2💛
This week, we talked about ACEs and PCEs and how our childhood experiences can affect the way we parent today.
A couple of parents shared that the group feels like “the therapy they needed.”
Parenting at a Glance is not therapy, but hearing that meant a lot. It tells me that parents are not just learning information. They are reflecting, making connections, and learning more about themselves.
Something else stood out too. Parents started talking about tantrums, discipline, and co-parenting, topics we have not covered yet, but will.
That is part of the intentional flow of Parenting at a Glance.
We first help parents understand themselves, their history, and what shaped them. Then we begin looking at their children, their behavior, and what they may be trying to communicate.
Sometimes before asking, “What should I do with my child?” it helps to first ask:
“What am I feeling or reacting to?”
and
“What might my child be feeling or trying to tell me?”
It is encouraging to see that the topics in the program are already creating conversations about things parents really want help with. 💛
