As the oldest holiday to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States, June 19, 1865 is a reminder of where this nation has been and where we still need to go.
We picked up We Celebrate Juneteenth by Doli Mitchell, Ashley Jefferson, and Little Feminist Book Club from the library and Zora has requested to read it no less than 15 times. Between the beautiful babies, the food, and the visual display of love in these Black families creating traditions, this book was the perfect way to discuss Juneteenth for a toddler.
How will you celebrate today?
β€οΈ Read a book about the holiday
π€ Support a Black-owned business
π Attend a Juneteenth event
β€οΈ Watch a kids show with a Juneteenth theme
π Use arts and crafts materials available to make a Juneteenth flag
π€ Make traditional Juneteenth red foods

The Summer Campers had an amazing first week full of fun, learning, and hands-on science adventures.
This week, campers took a deep dive into the Earth and weather through exciting experiments and activities. They created edible Earth layer pudding cups, made salt dough Earth models, and even built their own earthworm farm to observe over the next few weeks and watch the tunnels the worms create.
Campers also explored weather science with a tornado in a jar experiment and a raincloud experiment. To top off the fun, everyone enjoyed a special visit from Kona Ice!
Our Pre-K campers had a blast too, as they explored and played with their very own weather station and weather activities.
Next week the summer campers will travel into Space with some amazing activities planned, they are also going to enjoy going to the Gwinnett Stripers Baseball Game!
