Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!
From September 15 through October 15, we proudly celebrate the history, culture, traditions, and invaluable contributions of millions of Hispanics who, through hard work, sacrifice, and hope, have helped build strong communities throughout the United States and around the world.
This video reflects part of who we are and everything Hispanics represent when they make the difficult decision to leave their homelands. Behind every journey, there is a story: a family saying goodbye, a mother holding back her tears, a father setting out in search of better opportunities for his children, and men and women arriving in an unfamiliar place carrying a suitcase filled with dreams, memories, and hope.
When Hispanics leave their homeland, they do not leave their roots behind. They travel accompanied by their music, flavors, beliefs, language, customs, and memories of their loved ones. They carry with them the teachings of their parents and grandparents, the traditions of their communities, and a deep love for the land where they were born.
Many begin again from nothing, facing a new language, unfamiliar customs, and enormous challenges. They work long hours, overcome obstacles, and make tremendous sacrifices to open doors for future generations. Yet even from a distance, they continue celebrating their traditions, preparing their native foods, listening to their music, and teaching their children where they come from and why they should be proud of their roots.
Our Hispanic community includes workers, teachers, doctors, nurses, artists, business owners, public servants, community leaders, merchants, farmers, professionals, and young people who dream of a better future. Within each of them lives the spirit of perseverance that defines our people.
Hispanics do not simply arrive to occupy a place; we arrive to contribute, work, educate, build businesses, and enrich the communities that welcome us. Our presence can be seen in the arts, music, cuisine, education, science, sports, the economy, public service, and many other areas essential to the growth and development of our cities and nations.
Although we come from different countries, we share many important values: love of family, respect for our elders, solidarity, faith, joy, music, and pride in a heritage that remains alive from one generation to the next. Our cultural differences do not divide us; instead, they make our community stronger, more beautiful, and more diverse.
This video also recognizes those who opened doors before us—those who arrived with very little but worked tirelessly so their children and grandchildren could have greater opportunities. It is a tribute to those who never forgot where they came from and planted in future generations a love for our culture and a commitment to preserving it.
During Hispanic Heritage Month, let us celebrate our achievements, honor our ancestors, and proudly remember that our history deserves to be known, respected, and shared. Let us continue raising our voices, supporting our young people, and building bridges of unity among all our communities.
To every Hispanic who has struggled, worked, and persevered far from their homeland: thank you for representing our roots with dignity. Thank you for refusing to give up, for opening doors, and for demonstrating that when we move forward together, there are no boundaries to our dreams.
On behalf of the Instituto Cultural de Puerto Rico, Inc., we congratulate the entire Hispanic community during this deeply meaningful celebration. May this observance inspire us to continue preserving our culture, strengthening our identity, and leaving a legacy of pride for future generations.
Long live our culture!
Long live our roots!
Long live the unity of all Hispanic communities!
