Boeing gives $50,000 to Lawndale's Environmental Charter School
The Boeing Co. has donated $50,000 to Environmental Charter School in Lawndale for a program at the school called the Green Ambassadors Institute.
The program uses the environment as the context for interdisciplinary learning that connects students to their campuses, communities and the environment.
James E. Herr, Boeing's western region senior manager of Global Corporate Citizenship, said the company and school program share many of the same environmental goals and visions.
"The ultimate goal is a healthy ecosystem," he said in a statement. "We want to contribute to making every citizen an environmental steward, helping communities reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increasing recycling and protecting critical habitat."
Created by the school in 2008, the Green Ambassadors Institute is dedicated to helping educators embed concepts of environmental sustainability within their core curricula, all while encouraging communities to decrease their ecological footprints.
