They tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds. 🌱

Graduation is always my favorite because it is a reminder of our communities resilience, joy, love, and effort. It is a reminder that despite a history of trying to dim our light, we have remained unstoppable.

Congratulations to all the graduates!!

¡Si se pudo!

Remember this. 👏🏽

This time last year my job as a diversity & inclusion director at an institution was eliminated, & I was left with a choice: stay & betray my values or leave & live my values.

I chose to leave. I chose alignment over betrayal. I chose freedom over a paycheck.

This freedom came at a cost, & everyday I continue my work I ask myself: how will I exercise my freedom today?

✨Choosing to build outside of institutions isn’t easy, but do not let them convince you it is impossible. Convincing us that the future has already been decided is a strategy, but the future is for us to shape so long as we have the courage to dream.

✨Choosing to create soft spaces for my community to be together, to learn together, to heal together has been deemed a threat because what is more dangerous than teaching people how to exercise their freedom. This is why I created

This year I have experienced targeting by alt-r*ght groups who have vandalized and torn down posters, have attempted to pressure community orgs to end our partnerships, have tried to scare me into silence, have tried to place hurdle after hurdle to deter me, and still I rise.

✨This year I have also written poetry, and created art, and taught, and given hugs, and hyped up students, and loved on families, and shared resources, and refused to be anything other than my most human, vulnerable, and freest version of myself.

✨Choosing softness rather than despair, choosing joy instead of only sitting in rage, choosing courage even in the midst of fear is the most important thing we can be doing in this moment.

So, what good trouble should we get up to next? 😘

Today I get to do something high school me didn’t think would be possible🥹

When I was in high school preparing to go to college, I was also dealing with the uncertainty of being a low-income first generation student and wondering where I would get the resources I needed to go to school, including getting a laptop.

My high school English teacher encouraged me to submit an essay to a writing competition that was giving away laptops. Somehow, my essay won and I was awarded an laptop! That laptop I won is the one I went on to do all my assignments for my bachelors degree . It is also the device that allowed me to begin my journey as a writer and researcher exploring what would become my life’s work: immigrant narratives, testimonio, and educational access. Even though that laptop might not even turn on anymore, I kept it all this time as a reminder of how my story began.

Today I will be giving away a brand new laptop to a graduating student at our celebration at the

Today is a full circle moment & reminder to those who didn’t know if we would make it, that we CAN do it. ¡Si se puede!

If this resonates with you, I hope you will come today for a shot to win & be connected with resources. Today is for you. 🫶🏽
