I will be honest. Sitting in a recording booth listening to your own voice on repeat is not exactly comfortable. But I pushed through because the people I wrote this book for deserve to have it in a format that works for their lives.

For the person listening on the drive to the job site.
For the foreman who does not have time to sit down with a book.
For the apprentice figuring out what kind of leader they want to be.

And a huge thank you to my son for reading the foreword. Having his voice open this book was everything. He also worked tirelessly to produce this audiobook and I appreciate him so much!

These last few days in New York have been amazing!Getting to meet my book coach and publisher in person, along with several of the authors that have been supporting me for the past few months was such a pleasure!

I just finished recording the audiobook for Uncorporate Leadership.

I will be honest — I did not expect it to feel the way it did. Reading my own words out loud, in a studio, with just my oldest working his magic behind his computer, is a different experience than writing them. Throughout the weekend my emotions spanned from nervousness to frustration to satisfaction to excitement.

But mostly I just kept thinking about the tradespeople I wrote this book for. The foremen who never got leadership training. The apprentices trying to figure out how to speak up. The small business owners making a hundred decisions a day with no playbook. And mostly those who unnecessarily lost their lives at work.

I recorded this for them. I hope it feels that way when they listen.

This is my youngest getting me ready for my new headshots for my book launch.

I will be honest. Putting myself out there as an author is one of the most uncomfortable things I have done. Writing about psychological safety in the trades is one thing. Putting my face out there is another.

But I keep telling the people I train that growth lives outside your comfort zone. That speaking up when it feels risky is always worth it. That the discomfort you feel right before you do something brave is not a stop sign.

So here I am. Taking my own advice.

About a month ago I did something big.

I submitted the first draft of my book to my publisher and I am still riding that feeling.

Writing a book means putting your ideas, your experience, and your perspective out into the world in a way that feels very permanent. There is nowhere to hide in a book. It is just you and the page.

But every uncomfortable step I took to get here, starting the training company with Lee, developing a leadership curriculum specific for the trades and other safety-related training with other educators, showing up consistently in this space, taught me that I am more capable than I sometimes give myself credit for. The book is the next step in that same direction.

Launch is looking like late spring and I cannot wait to share more about it with you.

My new friend Ama is also releasing her book this spring! I’m so proud of us!
