Studio Recap! It's been a great year, and fun to review all of our achievements!
My very first arrangement is finished & published! As a teacher, I'm regularly taking classes to find new things to help my students and improve my own musicianship. This was a wonderful process, and it felt like writing a novel! A lot of fun taking this arranging class with a fabulous and skilled mentor, Bradley Sowash Music . Such a full week of music and trying new things! Kids did a fantastic job on their pieces, the adjudicators were great, and made it fun for the kids. I also did some fill in work for the musical on keyboards as a student got sick and couldn't finish out the shows!!!

This was really interesting and not at all what I was expecting! Part of the story intertwines with Nazi-occupied Denmark which was enlightening, and the opening scene with a surgical clean room operating on a locket had my interest! And the exchanges between iconic composers was awesome! I absolutely LOVED one of the conclusions about Beethoven's clarity of thought and mental toughness.
When people say "give the gift of music" this is what it means to me.
This is a piece of music I very specifically remember working on with Mr. Saggert. Internally I want to criticize so many parts of this but that isn't the point today.
It is a rough version of a beautiful Debussy Piece called Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum.
I grew up the oldest of 6 kids, with a dedicated (and boy do I mean dedicated) stay at home mom! Finances were tight as you may well imagine, but my mom made piano lessons happen for me. In fact, I really don't know how she and my dad managed it as I look back with adult eyes.
This piece represents my mom finding me a concert pianist to learn from.
My mom always wanted to play the piano, but she made it happen for me. There were so many untold sacrifices and a determination to give her children more than she had.
To me this piece will always mean my mom's determination and sacrifices.
Thanks mom for the gift of music. β€πΉπΆ
