I built something quietly.
I’ve had too many conversations with educators who feel stuck — not necessarily leaving, just unsure what their skills are worth outside the classroom.
The issue isn’t ability.
It’s translation.
So I built a free Career-Pivot Strategist GPT that helps educators:
• Translate their experience into market language
• See aligned career paths
• Understand salary ranges
• Map a 90-day strategy
No pressure to leave. Just clarity.
Comment PIVOT and I’ll send you the link in a DM.
What other tools would actually help right now — for staying or transitioning?

Restarting and recommitting to my Substack.
Take a look at my dip back into research about the classroom and student behaviors.
I am a teacher. I am not staying quiet anymore.

ANYONE WHO HAS TAKEN A TRAINING WITH ME...
I am updating my portfolio, and I could use updated testimonials from those who could vouch I am pretty good at edtech training.
If you are willing to do this, drop a comment below or DM directly.
Ideally, I would like these testimonials within the next two weeks.
Thanks in advance!

CCSD PEEPS:
Hello, again.
As I continue to build my portfolio, I am also building GPTs for teachers and students.
Would anyone be interested in trying my professional email coach with their students on Gemini? I would share the Gem with you, then you would share the Gem with your students.
It is currently written for secondary education, mostly for high school.
If elementary teachers could find value in a Gem like this, I would definitely value the feedback to make an ES version.
If you are interested, please comment below or send me a DM.
I will let you know when I have DMed the share link from my CCSD Google Workspace account. It has to be used on CCSD's Google Workspace account.
TIA for your interest and help in perfecting my GPT.
NOT IN CCSD: I can share a different version with you for Gemini, Copilot, or ChatGPT. These would be from my personal accounts, though.

Yesterday, I let the light back into my art studio. It’s a little messy, but it feels right. This week, we chase stories, prep for winter sports, and push journalism drafts forward. What’s your Sunday look like?

Time to walk the walk. Hall passes in hand, cameras ready—our staffers are chasing stories and deadlines. We’re building momentum, catching up, and leaning on AI to stay sharp. Stay tuned.

Why, yes—Beyoncé has an inbox in my classroom. ✨
She’s holding all those no-name papers that still sneak in without their rightful owner. Until they’re claimed, Bey keeps them safe and sound. 💌
Want to see her inbox? 👀

Report day for CCSD teachers. Beware, we are on the roads today. A preemptive to Monday 8/11 when families and students are back on the roads during the week.
I hope all CCSD teachers have an amazing day with minimal grown-worthy topics for the first day of meetings.
What do you hope to see or do with your students this school year?

Today is National Teacher Day… what better time to reintroduce myself?
Hey, I’m Karlana—a high school journalism and yearbook teacher based in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the fifth largest school district in the U.S.
✨ This is year 24 in the classroom.
- I’ve taught students from toddlers to 21-year-olds—and despite every challenge public education throws our way, I’m still here… still loving it.
- I started as an English teacher with a heart for reading and writing about powerful literature. But three years ago, I shifted gears—choosing to teach students how to ask the hard questions, speak truth to power, and report with clarity, courage, and facts.
The work is real. The mission is bigger than me.
And I’m shaped by the women who taught me how to show up:
• Ms. Day, my 6th grade reading teacher who made books feel magical
• Ms. Ebert, my 7th grade pre-algebra teacher who gave me confidence to speak
• Ms. Bullen, my 11th grade creative writing teacher who helped me fall in love with my own voice
They were the kind of teachers I needed—so now, I strive to be that same teacher for my students:
- The teacher I wanted growing up.
- The teacher they need today.
Thanks for being here and following my journey as a proud veteran educator.
There’s more to come—stay tuned.
