Make books special for children. Encourage parents to take their children to the library, and help them get their own library card. Read with children, or even buy them books as gifts. In the classroom and at home have a favorite place for books, or even better, put books everywhere!

Back to school Tip #2
Anticipate and address your child’s anxiety. Going back to school is stressful for kids of all ages, so head off the stress before school even starts, says Renee Clausell, a child psychologist in Long Island, New York. Talk with your children about new experiences and traditions, from using the potty at preschool to learning how to use a locker “in a playful and creative, role-playing way,” Clauselle says.

Back to school Tip #1
Ease the family into a school year schedule.
The first day of school is not time for a drastic adjustment of household sleep schedules. Instead, ease children back into a school year of routine gradually. During the last two weeks of summer, re-introduce a school year bedtime. Begin waking late sleepers earlier, and earlier, closer to the hour they'll need to rise when school begins. Don't neglect mealtimes! Younger children, in particular, need to adapt to new meal routines before the school day demands it of them. Plan meals and snacks to accustom little one's to rituals of the school day before the school year begins.

You will want to call your State or County licensing office and ask if there have been any substantiated complaints against any of the providers you are choosing.
