Hardwired Tactical Shooting

The Pat Rogers Memorial Revolver Round Up is again being put on by Hardwired Tactical Shooting. It will return to it’s original format. Four instructors will be teaching over two days in a round robin format. Students will get a 3 hour block with every instructor.

We will also return to original goals of maintaining the legacy of Pat Rogers and we will be teaching what Pat taught in his own words: “It’s about the basics, the basics of Gunf*ckin’Fighting”. All of the primary instructors were serious students of Pat’s, and with solid practical experience with real world use of revolvers. All are active distinguished Law Enforcement officers with a deep understanding of force application. For those who have attended similar events in the past, a lot of what will be taught will be new and presented differently than you have seen before at other venues.

This will not be an event for novices, or those new to fi****ms and formal training. It will be serious training for serious students. It is geared towards those who extensively carry revolvers as either primary or back up guns. It is also a great way for those who are solid shooters with semiautomatic pistols to gain a great deal of expertise and understanding of revolvers in a very short amount of time.

The event will be held at the Tactical Defense Institute in West Union, Ohio. It will be limited to 80 students. The event will begin the evening of October 22 through October 24, 2027. Cost will be $500 and will include a social dinner Saturday night. Students will also be able to handle Pat’s personal revolvers.

No deposit or payment is needed to sign up. On July 1 of 2027 those signed up will be contacted for payment. We will also have a wait list if we exceed 80 sign ups.

River County Sheriff’s Office Urges CA POST to Adopt Defensive Edged‑Weapons Training into Statewide Law Enforcement Academy Curriculum

River County, CA — The River County Sheriff’s Office announced today that it is formally urging the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (CA POST) to incorporate the department’s defensive edged‑weapons training module into the statewide basic academy curriculum.

The Sheriff’s Office developed its program in response to the rising frequency defensive encounters across California. The training emphasizes threat recognition, safe distance management, rapid‑response decision‑making, and scenario‑based drills that reflect real‑world conditions faced by patrol deputies and officers.

According to River County Sheriff’s leadership, the curriculum has already demonstrated measurable improvements in recruit confidence, reaction time, and tactical awareness during controlled assessments. The department believes these outcomes align with CA POST’s mission to enhance officer safety, elevate professional standards, and ensure consistency across California’s law enforcement training environments.

“Defensive edged‑weapon response remain one of the most unpredictable and fast‑moving threats our personnel encounter,” the Sheriff said in a prepared statement. “Our training module gives recruits and lateral officers a modern, evidence‑based framework that improves survivability and supports safer outcomes for both officers and the public. We believe this material belongs in every academy across the state.”

The Sheriff’s Office has submitted its full training package—including lesson plans, instructor guides, and evaluation rubrics—to CA POST for review. River County officials expressed confidence that the program’s data‑driven approach and alignment with existing defensive tactics standards will support statewide adoption.

The Sheriff’s Office will continue working with CA POST, regional academies, and partner agencies to share best practices and strengthen officer preparedness throughout California.

It was a busy week for HiTS. We are extremely proud that all three of our staff instructors are actively working Oklahoma lawmen, and we take that mission seriously.

Yesterday Tanner Smith was awarded his advanced law enforcement certificate by CLEET. This is the highest of the three peace officer certification levels in the state, obtained by meeting a high composite threshold of years in service/field experience, training, and formal education.

Meanwhile, David completed the sixth and final phase of CLEET Fi****ms Instructor School. In total, this course is a 6 week, 240-hour program requiring academic knowledge, high marksmanship skill repeatedly demonstrated on demand, and teaching ability proven in an academy setting.

A common principle found across most martial arts is that teachers are judged by the quality of the students they produce. As a fi****ms instructor, the shooters in your organization tell the truth of whether your program has been designed correctly or not. Their results are more of an indictment of you than them.
